“Wose…”

“Un huh,” she smiled softly as she brushed the light hair from her brothers face and tucked him into his bed.

“Wose, will you tell me a story?”

A smile fell onto Rose’s lips and she settled herself down on the edge of her little brother’s bed. David was 20 years younger than her and he seemed to look up to his sister with innocent awe. “Course I will Davie, which story would you like me to tell you?” She reached for the stack of books at the side of his bed, “One of your Thomas stories, Bob the Builder?”

David reached over and pushed the books from Rose’s hand and laughed as they fell onto the floor.

“Davie!” Rose almost scolded him.

He gave her one of those innocent looks before settling back down in his bed.

“Tell me about him Wose, the mister wiv the bue box.”

Rose regarded him carefully, “You want to hear a story about the Doctor?”

David nodded and smiled brightly, “The mister wiv the bue box, and you Wose, tell me about that.”

Rose smiled sadly and nodded, “Alright, which story would you like to hear?”

“Ummmm.” He put his finger to his lips and screwed his face up slightly as he thought. “The one wiv the bue suns and the lellow fogs.”

“Blue suns and yellow frogs?”

David nodded and laughed before hiding his face in his hands, he knew there was no story with blue suns and yellow frogs, and he was just trying to stay awake as much as he could. Children never seemed to want to go to sleep, too scared that they would miss out on something.

“Tell me bout one wiv snowed. I knows there was woned wiv snowed.” He nodded to confirm he wanted to hear a story which contained snow in it.

“Alright,” she said softly, “Now lie down and cuddle up to Charlie,” she handed him a chocolate brown teddy bear and cuddled up to it, “are you ready?”

David nodded and grinned, cuddling closer to Charlie the bear. “Oh Wose, member to make noises, member to does the voices too.”

Rose just nodded and smiled even more. “It wouldn’t be a real story if I didn’t make noises and do voices now would it.” One more check of his bedding and Charlie, Rose began to tell her story.

“We’d just come back to London so I could see Mom and the Doctor could get some milk and chips…”

“Because tea fixes everyfing...” David giggled softly and hid behind Charlie the Bear.

“Right and the Doctor did like his chips and tea.” Rose ran her fingers down her brothers’ cheek to try and calm him down. This was the only problem with telling him stories about the Doctor, he wanted to meet him, to go out and have adventures like Rose had. And it hurt so much when she had to explain that it would never happen, that she would never see the Doctor again.

“Mom walked me back to the TARDIS and the Doctor was sat outside eating his chips, a large smile on his face.

“Alright then, ready to get going?” The Doctor rubbed his hands together a little to brush off the salt from the chips.

“Oh, I like that. No hi Jackie how are you. Nothing like that! You sure he’s got manners. I know the last Doctor was a little short butt his one…”

“I’ll see you later mom.” I kissed Mom’s cheek and headed over to the Doctor and he promptly took hold of my hand.

“Yeah, well see you later then; don’t leave it so long next time. And Doctor. You take care of her wont you.”

“Don’t I always?” The Doctor flashed Mom a smile and then headed into the TARDIS out of the way.

“Yeah, well. No more dangerous situations, you hear me!”

“Mom, I’ll be fine, now go on before you miss one of your soaps.” Mom gave me one of her looks before I headed into the TARDIS.

The Doctor stood there waiting for me with a bright smile on his face, “Right, thought we would go somewhere a little different. It’s so hot down here I thought wee would go somewhere a little different. Might want to go get changed into something suitable for cold weather.”

I dropped my bag in the floor of the console room and watched him for a moment, “Cold weather? So where are we going?”

“Oh, you’ll see.” He smiled at me from where he stood at the console, twiddling a few knobs, “Well, go on.”

So off I went to the wardrobe room and changed into these black trousers and jacket, all ready for cold weather, and gloves, hat and scarf to match. When I came back out the Doctor was dressed the same and I wondered, not for the first time, if the elements ever effected him.

“Ready when you are.”

“Just about to land,” he reached over and picked up a scarf and wrapped it around his neck and then some gloves went into his pocket. “Right…here we are.”

“And where is here.”

“Oh,” He rubbed the back of his neck, “Silver, the Canadian Rockies, wonderful this time of the year. All that Snow.”

“Snow? What time is it?”

“Late February 2006.” He looked at me, “What, no point going too far when the snow was just fine this year….come on.” He took hold of my hand and dragged me out of the TARDIS.

It was so cold outside and the snow fell steadily around us. “Oh, perfect, just perfect.” He grinned at me with one of those bright smiles, “Ever been skiing?”

I shook my head at looked up at the tall mountain before us, “Where would I do that? Don’t get much snow in London, well not unless it’s ash from an exploded Sycorax ship.”

“Hmmm.” That day still played on his mind, the great power of humans. He had been wrong about Harriet Jones, she hadn’t been as great as he thought she would be. “Well best not dwell on that, come on.”

Our feet seemed to vanish into the snow blow us. I don’t think I had ever seen anything so pure in my life. The snow was bright and white, the air clear and crisp and our cheeks were rosey.

“So, can you ski then?”

“Course I can, no Time Lord would be seen dead if they couldn’t ski.”

Walking up to the cabin we got ourself some ski’s and off we went up the ski lift, higher and higher, the snow below us seemed so far away.

“Come on Rose,” the Doctor stood on the edge of the slope and looked back at me, “It’s easy, just got to keep yourself balanced and make sure you know how to…”

“I’ll watch you do it first, make sure I know what I am doing.”

He gave me a bit of a look and then nodded, “Right, just stay where you are and I will be back in a jiffy.” He screwed his face up at using the word jiffy and it just made me smile.

Off he went down the slope, his coat flapping behind him in the wind and everyone seemed to stare at him. There he was, speeding down the slope in a suit and overcoat, scarf, hat and gloves. An interesting look really, but very the Doctor.

He glanced back to smile at me but his smile soon faded as a loud crack echoe’d across the sky and then the soft rumbling sound.

“Rose!”

I looked up and behind me to see puffs os snow in the air and it seemed to be moving down the mountain above. People began to scream and I just stood there, unable to move.

“Rose!” The Doctors voice came once more and I turned to see him turning to stop, “Come on…” There was such fear in his voice, “Rose, move!” He was trying to make his way back up to me but he couldn’t move fast enough.

I felt a hand grab my arm and pull me towards the slope, I tried not to scream but I didn’t know what to do.

“Feet together. Elbows in,” There was a man next to me guiding me, soon the Doctor was the other side and between them they guided me to the bottom of the mountian without getting hurt.

The snow was moving fast now and getting close. “I can’t get these off,” My boots were stuck in the ski’s and I couldn’t get out of them. The Doctor bent down and used the Sonic Screwdriver on them and I was free.

“Come on… Damn it. Not enough time.” He grabbed my arm and pulled me towards the cabbing at the bottom of the mountain, there wasn’t enough time to get to the TARDIS.

The wooden building began to creak and shake a little as the snow hit it, and then there was silence. Everyone inside looked around, watching, waiting. But nothing happened.

That night the Doctor and I sat curled up under a blanket in front of a large open fire drinking cocoa. There wasn’t much we could do, there were crews working outside to dig us all out, so we had to just sit and wait.

I fell asleep with my head on the Doctors shoulder, his arms around me to keep me warm, soon he fell asleep too, his head resting on my own.”

Rose looked down at her baby brothers sleeping for and smiled softly, “Goodnight David.” She kissed the top of his head before turning out the light and heading out of the room.
