((What would he look like to infra-red vision or night vision? Just sort of a fuzz, then?))

The footsteps came closer. Guards on patrol. So far, they're unaware of the intruder. In fact, they're just talking to each other.

((Back. Busy day today. X_X Anyway... Being in Gaseous Form means that he actually won't show up in conventional visual sensor systems. At most, he'll be like indistinct particles, like static in transmission. Of course, this would scream heavy magic use to magic detectors.))

Squee kept to the corners, way out of sight. Even in intangible form, it never hurts to be a little more careful.

((...Do'h! I just realize that Squee has one of the locator watches. Would it be temporarily inactive while he's still intangible, or should it still work?))

((I thought the watches were just a countdown thing, not a locator... I didn't come up with them *grins*. Your call, though inactive sounds more likely.))

Guards walked past. One paused for a moment.
"You hear something?"
His partner looked around. "Nah, MC. Nothing here. You're imagining things."
They continued on their way.

There are signs and computer panels on the walls in a variety of languages.

The Alpha had indeed accompanied him... A simple bit of wind, circling around in defiance of most laws of physics.

Hoping that the coast is clear--it sounded that way, anyway--Squee poked his head out of the alcove to check.

"Hey," he called out to the Alpha hovering above him. "Could you, er, read those?" he said, gesturing at the symbols and writing on the walls.

((Drat. Wasn't able to go online soonest. My connection's rather erratic.))

A whisper, barely audible to anyone but Squee. "Directional stuff. Where we are, and what's going on. Nothing very important in this sector, it looks like, just some basic research. We may want to try somewhere else."

"Okies," he said, making a mental note of his surroundings. "Let's go lower. Maybe we'll find the younglings R wants rescued. So, where to next?"

Checking to makes sure the coast is clear, they continue on their way.

The complex sprawls out. There are stairways leading both up and down from their current location - however, they're guarded. The guards seem pretty bored at present, though...

Making a note of this stairway, Squee strains to hear any sounds of activity from above or below. There might be something interesting to find below, though.

There isn't much to hear except the overbearing hum of machinery. Everywhere, the same mechanical drone...

Staying out of sight, Squee looks for the Alpha following him. "Hey, could you read the signs?" I wonder if I should... nah, would attract too much unwanted attention. If only I could communicate with the others...

((The signs are place names again. R&D2 - weapons research thisaway, R&D3 - genetics thataway.))

((I'm waiting for the Alpha to actually reply. If not, well... ;D ))

(( The watches are, as Ryan said, just a countdown timer. It's assumed that you'll be done with something by a pre-selected time, like "Green 10:00" (10 minutes before the major action) or "Red 5:30" (5 minutes, 30 seconds after the major action) and that the timer allows you do do that without being detectable. ))

((Drat. And here I thought it functions as a sort of tracker so whoever's got the main monitor can keep tabs on us. :/ ))
