Today I got hired at The Gap. So now I can breathe a sigh of relief and know that I will make money this summer.
I keep thinking about when I was a little girl and spent every day at the Woodacre Pool. And then on the way home how we'd stop at the deli and I would always get a cheese sandwich. Then we'd drive home down the winding mountain road at dusk and I'd sit in the metal trunk of Suzie's '55 Chevy with Shoey and eat my sandwich. And then how afterwards my hands would smell like pickles and chlorine.
And I still wish everything were as simple as pickles and chlorine. Because then I could swim every day at the Woodacre Pool over the summer and not have a care in the world.
