Summary: Deep inside, hyde knew he was in love with tetsu, but he ended up looking for the facade instead. [One-shot]

He saw her- in platform shoes, a pink sleeveless top, plaid skirt, a scarf thrown around her neck and skinny jeans with belts and buckles- smiling happily inside a store. Her hair was long, red and very, very beautiful; if he was given a chance, Hyde would’ve jumped out of his then best friend’s car and stroked those lovely strands of red.

Hyde felt the small smile on his face turn into a frown as he saw another man approach the beautiful girl. And from that moment knew from the look of familiarity and glow of her features that the raven haired man was more than a friend.

He couldn’t understand why the paper he was holding was crumpled in his hand when he saw an arm slid around the girl’s thin waist. But he knew that if traffic didn’t finally loosen and let the car he was riding move forward away from the redhead and his ‘friend’, he’ll need more than paper to destroy.

For the next consecutive months, Hyde found himself wondering about the redhead- regardless of the fact that his encounter was not even worth calling an encounter to begin with. But Hyde was furious; he knew deep in his heart that one of his biggest sins was not taking that step out of the car to catch the girl.

It amazed Hyde, how far apart they were, how petty the incident was, the smile that smeared that girl’s face was still remembered by his mind and heart. Is that what they call true love?

So he went back to that place, the place he first met the girl, through the windows of his friend’s car.

Fourth Avenue Café was the name of the place; he pushed away the glass door making the top hit the bells, the ones announcing his arrival. Deep inside, it was that moment he’s been waiting for all his life.

But reality gave him only two silent patrons and their lattes, chatting about the most mundane things life like the weather and love. There was also the blond waiter who smiled at Hyde and greeted him with the customary ‘Welcome to Our Café’ speech.

He ignored the perky waiter, and his eyes searched, he went to look for that girl. That girl with the long flowing red hair, wearing the plaid skirt and skinny jeans with those belts and buckles, a pink top….

Hyde realized his idiocy and shook his head.

Of course she isn’t there, he thought, whacking his foolish head with his palm.

“What was I thinking?”

“Sir… is there anything wrong?” Hyde turned and saw the waiter, and for a while the little man brows were furrowed. He couldn’t help but feel the odd sense of remembrance.

“Ah… I was just... ah…”

“Were you looking for someone?”

“Yes, sort of something like that” the waiter’s smile, his smile, Hyde saw the images of his daydream’s upturned lips, he could already see the similarities, “Hey, um… do you happen to have any sisters with red hair?”

“Red hair?” the boy looked amused, and laughed heartily “My sisters would never do those kinds of things! I’d be surprised if ever any of those two would do that!”

Hyde sighed and privately kicked himself in the head, he had to repeat: what on earth was he thinking?

“But… a few months ago, when my hair was still long-” and at the mention, he craned his neck to look at the tall waiter, “-I used to have red hair” The waiter ran his hand across his short blond locks, “It was troublesome having long hair, so I had it cut”

If Hyde could’ve seen the hints, or heard the sadness that spoke at the end- you could hear it if you listened well... Maybe, just maybe, he could’ve seen the real picture.

The other laughed; it was a pleasant sound “Why do you ask, Sir?”

“It’s… it’s nothing…” the not so tall boy replied, admitting defeat. He smiled sadly and retreated back to the glass door. “Hey… what’s your name?”

“My name?” the waiter pointed at himself curiously, “It’s Ogawa, Tetsuya Ogawa”

The other smiled at him, “Ogawa Tetsuya, huh? I'm Takarai Hideto”

Hyde went out of the shop; once again the sound of jingling bells mixed with tetsu’s “Please come again” was the last thing he heard.
