John came home when Sherlock was clearly in the middle of a lecture.
“I’m just saying,” he was saying, “it’s a perfectly respectable career choice.”
John snorted as he start unpacking the groceries. “It’s hardly a career, is it?”
“What’s that?” said Sherlock.
“Consulting detective. It’s hardly a career. I mean, if anyone else can pretend it’s a career, it’ll definitely be Oliver, but let’s not pretend it’s really a career, hmm?”
Oliver and Sherlock both stared at him blankly.
And then Oliver said, “Actually, he was trying to convince me to go into medicine.”
“Oh,” John managed, oddly touched.
