So we left Boston on Wednesday night.
I took the bus from Providence to the airport. For some reason, there was tons of traffic in the Ted Williams Tunnel, which I didn’t understand because I thought that tunnel only wen to the airport. They got stuck in traffic, too, on the T (because Silver Line stuff), so I got there first, which was good, because it meant I was able to scope out where Wow Air even was, because it wasn’t on any of the airport signs.
Check-in was fine, although it was the beginning of my confusion with Wow Air, because they claimed I’d paid for carry-on luggage instead of checked. I was like, “…But will you let me carry thing on?” and they looked confused, as if they don’t have all these crazy rules about carry-on number and weight. At any rate, I checked the bag because I had liquid in it. Boston must have a bunch of rule followers, though, because this was the only plane I’d ever been on where the overhead compartments were empty.
We got our boarding passes and got through security, where the pair of TSA agents were busy flirting with each other. This didn’t make me feel all that safe, but, you know, AU idea.
We decided to eat dinner, even though none of us were hungry. S and I went to Earl of Sandwich, where they had apparently never served sandwiches before. L was basically done with his chicken fries by the time S and I got BLTs. At least the BLT was good and I ate the whole thing even though I wasn’t hungry at all.
Boarding was a bit of a mess because, as usual, there were two flights at adjacent gates leaving within five minutes of each other. Why do airports do this? It was also confusing because they had clearly changed my seat on the plane to the second-to-last row. I hate being in the back of the plane, so I would never have chosen that row. It’s always so bumpy back there. But whatever. We boarded and got settled. Our flight attendant got giddy and giggled throughout the safety announcement. We applauded when she was done. I tried to sleep since we were taking off at midnight Iceland time and landing at 4 am. My attempt to sleep meant I missed the Perseus meteor shower that was happening. I’d been really excited to see this from the plane but it turned out we were far enough north that the sun never really set and just lingered on the horizon. So it never really got dark enough for me to see anything, so I decided to try sleeping instead. Which was when I discovered that my MP3 player has all these weird songs on it that I definitely didn’t put on it. Like a 12-minute flute solo. I blame Windows 10. Also exciting on the plane was the fact that a child screamed for a large portion of the flight. This was energetic screaming like the child was being tortured. I assume he was over-tired. He definitely made the rest of us feel over-tired.
