I love this. Every. Single(malt). Word. My FAVORITE, FAVORITE part is the end that shows us how the World's Smartest Siblings communicate, using texts and phone messages to battle, batter and amuse each other. *goes off to read up on scotch*

Ha! They are SO RIDICULOUS. I love very much writing their utterly absurd relationship with each other.

I'm glad you're enjoying! (I actually hate Scotch, but it seems like a liquor Lestrade and Mycroft might have in common.)

this is freakin' brilliant. i don't know how you do it. really. I love the communication mechanism between the brothers and the idea that the violin is going back to sherlock. i also adore lestrade for not getting in the car. he *does* have a job to do afterall and if he gets in strange cars and drives off from crime scenes, donovan would end up winning.

Thank you! In my head, Mycroft really did want Sherlock to have the violin, and Sherlock keeps it with him always. And Lestrade is already a bit "who does Mycroft think he is?" about the whole thing. I always wondered why John didn't just, like, not go in the car.

Omg, I love you for continuing this. (saves me the trouble of wading through fanfic communities looking for good post Reicenbach fic - this is exactly what I want to read and it's already on my flist. So nice. :) )

I like the parallel of Mycrof sitting in the dark/Sherlock and John waiting in the dark for the reporter. They sure share a love of the dramatics don't they ;)

Hee! I'm so glad you're enjoying this so much!

Mycroft and Sherlock are similar in *so* many ways that neither one of them wants to think about. I admit I really love that Mycroft just sat there in the dark and doesn't think there's anything overly strange about that.

Mycroft really had me going there, he is such a good actor! The reveal of "fixing a problem" puts him right back in character. Now, "not quite a checkmate" makes total sense. He really did get away, but Lestrade got close. I wonder if Lestrade is going to figure it out before Sherlock reveals he's alive? And the intrigue around Lestrade is fascinating! I hope he enlists the help of John. You write suspense and banter so well. Thanks!

It's true, Lestrade got very, very close but didn't quite win that game. And it really was clever of Mycroft to throw him off by appealing to the fact that he's a decent guy who would expect brotherly love. (Not that I think Mycroft was lying, he really wasn't, but I think he went deliberately out of character in the speech to prey on Lestrade.)

Glad you enjoyed!

Wonderful. I love Mycroft here -- telling the truth (I assume) and throwing Lestrade off the scent, all in one line.

Yup. It's the very best sort of move, really: get what you want by telling the truth. I admit I love Mycroft in this section for being so clever.
