"Chamber of Secrets" - Chapters 4 through 7

Sep 26, 2009 15:47

If I read four chapters tomorrow (and I should be able to), I actually will be entirely on time with my Harry Potter reading (in fact, I'm already into Book 3). I'm just very far behind with posting about it.

From At Flourish and Blotts to Mudbloods and Murmurs )

Yeah, that Molly moment is a weird inconsistent moment, but it really does set into place almost EVERYTHING that comes afterward in the plot. Almost everything in the book canbe traced back to that one decision by Mrs. Weasley. I wish it rang more true, though. I wish something had been going on that made it make sense that Mrs. Weasley would leave Harry and Ron behind, rather than just her making that odd decision on her own. Your point that Ron sometimes does get the short end of the stick is, I think, the best explanation we have.

And wow. It's totally true about Quidditch!

I've been loving these commentaries, though I've been bad and not commenting. I'm doing a reread myself, by listening to them on CD while I weave. It's great to hear someone else's thoughts about it :)

I especially like your idea about the theme of celebrity, and JKR's plots. My friend and I were talking about it the other night in fact, but in context of Ginny/Harry. We love Ginny, but we sometimes have a hard time believing she and Harry could have a successful long term relationship. I could go into it, but ultimately, I'm happy to read the books, enjoy them and occasionally ponder the what ifs :)

I'm glad you're enjoying the commentaries! I keep falling behind on posting them, but I'm glad people are enjoying them!

You know, your point about Ginny/Harry and the celebrity aspect is an important one. I think JKR realized that, because she does let Ginny lose the hero-worship of Harry before getting Ginny and Harry together. It is still a bit weird, though, to read how they truly did start as a couple.
