Excerpts from the Travel Journal: Day One--Boston to London

Finally, after much longing for, the UK trip arrived. The hours at work had been brutal, and the adrenaline crashes have been brutal, including one at 12:30 in the morning of the trip, that had me collapsing into bed before I could finish packing. I felt better after sleeping for a few hours and woke up early on Thursday morning totally ready to go ( Read more... )

I wish I was only flying from Boston. My flight will be double that. Yikes. Worst part of any trip. No, probably the worst is the flight home, which is longer and less exciting.

I need to look into moving to the east coast! If only for ease of UK travel. :)

My squee icon? Thanks! It used to have more frames in it, because I was going to the BAFTA Einstein and Eddington screening. But there is still a LOT to squee over. Hopefully. If the world doesn't end between now and Wednesday when I leave. :)

One of the reasons I adore the East Coast so much is that it's actually easier for me to get to London than it is for me to get to California. Not cheaper, mind you. But easier.

It's one of the reasons I'm looking into moving to the east coast (yeah, it's sad that I'm actually serious about that. ish.). I think it hit me when I was watching that episode of Friends years and years ago, when they all flew to London for Ross's wedding. And I'm like, wow, what an ordeal, get everyone to schlep all that time on a plane. But it's HALF the time. The same amount of time it'd take me to get to anywhere on the east coast. It's like nothing. You can go for a weekend.

Your trip was pretty short, right? I wanna be able to DO that. Just go for a little while because it doesn't take all that long to get there.

But yes, it isn't much cheaper. So... I'd need to find a job that pays enough to a. live out there and b. be able to just fly off whenever i feel like it. ;)

My trip was a week and a day, which I consider basically an average length, but I have a friend who lived in England for several years and routinely takes long weekends there to visit friends. I'd do it more often if the cost was more reasonable, which it unfortunately is not.
