There were several times in my life when I had the opportunity (though not the means) to live my biggest fantasy and run off to Europe to be an expat. My goal was, of course, to live in Paris, immerse myself in the language, and then meet some rich hunky French dude to spend the rest of my life with. For whatever reason, the Fates sent me to Anchorage, I have a not-so-very-rich hunky guy and a not-quite-as-romantic-as-my-life-woulda-been-in-Paris kind of life. The good news is, I'm not forced to learn another language living here... (but that's the kind of difficulty I could overcome in exchange for living in PARIS!) But I imagine it would be very difficult.
It still annoys me, though, when people come in to the library and I can't help them because of the language barrier.
It's incredibly frustrating.
