So... Despite my best intentions, I haven't updated for almost a month again... Well. So you'll get a update of random things now. :-D
1. I went to a Sherlock fan meet-up in my home town at the end of July. I never expected many people to show up, but in the end there were like 50 or so people and it was awesome! So many fans in one place! :-D We had great weather, a lot of food and amazing discussions about Sherlock (okay, and mostly Benedict Cumberbatch to be completely honest... :-P). This was great fun! You can see a group picture over at my tumblr.
The best thing, though, is that I know lots of people to do fannish things with, now. ^^ Which brings me to my plans for the next weeks:
2. On Monday I'm going to a Sherlock Holmes musical! Heard of it rather by accident and very spontaneously bought tickets. It'll be the premiere, so I haven't really found out anything about it. Probably best not to get my hopes up too high... But I'll keep you updated. :-)
3. On October 31 there will be one of the encore screenings of "Frankenstein" in my home town! Very excited about that one! (Especially since during the screenings last year there was none even close by...) Obviously all of my newly found fellow fans were very excited and we hurried so much to buy tickets, we crashed the ticket server. *coughs* What can I tell you, of course the only tickets sold till now are ours... But I think it'll be a lot of fun! Has any of you been to one of the screenings last year?
What else?
4. I'm still working on my two entries for the Podcastle Flash Fiction Contest. One is almost done (and out for beta-reading now). I've been working on it since the end of July and I'm a bit worried that I've over-edited it. Is there such a thing as over-editing? Where you destroy a perfectly good story by changing it over and over again? Well, we'll see... The second one is in a much earlier stage, but till now I'm hopeful that I'll get it done in time for the deadline next Saturday. (Which is in a WEEK! o.O I really need to get back to writing asap!)
5. Oh, and I've finished Ben Aaronovitch's "Rivers of London". Since some people were interested in my opinions, have my (possibly slightly spoilery) thoughts behind the cut: [Spoiler (click to open)]First, let me say I liked the book. I especially enjoyed all the popcultural references, although I have to admit that they may have worked even better in the original than the translation. (They often had to clarify or explain them. E.g. they didn't just say "Doctor Who", they said "the British TV series "Doctor Who".) Still, I really had fun with the references I got. ^^ Otherwise I agree that it's a very British book, very firmly set in London. Sometimes I felt, I'd like a map of London with all the relevant spots marked for visualization, but then I was too lazy to look things up while reading, so obviously it wasn't necessary... However, even though I liked it, I didn't love the book. I wasn't familiar with the "Punch and Judy" shows at all prior to reading the book, so that may have taken some of the fun out of it. Well, I don't really know what kept me from loving it. I'd read some of the next books, though, since sometimes I need more books to warm up with a series (was the same for Thursday Next for me, whom I now love!). Can the people who've already read them recommend the next books as well?
