The last gifts from all the holiday fanfic exchanges have finally been posted and let me just say how lucky I've been with my gifts this year! They are all wonderful and wonderfully diverse, too. So let me share them with you:
I've already rec'ed my
holmestice gift, but since it's so perfect, let me mention it again:
Hiding Places is a backstory for Harry Watson and the author's portrayal of Harry as a truly believable, well-rounded character with rough edges and shortcomings, but very likeable in her own way, is masterfully done.
I'm almost a bit ashamed to say I got two awesome gifts for
yuletide seeing how I had to default... :-S At least I managed to write a short treat. But anyway, lets have a look at my gifts:
Lucky Penny is a "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" Western AU and it's fabulous. The author has a very beautiful, lyrical way of writing and I especially loved how Penny (originally not much more than a love interest) is turned into a dangerous and mysterious outlaw.
For Love or Money is a "Pushing Daisies" case!fic and combines everything that I love about this show: snappy dialogue, puns, pies, weird names and an awesome and hilarious case. This fic is simply pitch-perfect and all the characters are so much in character, this feels like a real episode rather than a fanfic.
For the December Drabble Exchange at
great-tales I received an amazing Sherlock Holmes drabble. Actually,
Scattered Marigolds is a very well written and clever poem in which the writer has tackled one of my more complicated prompts "A mystery told backwards" and made it work much better than I had thought possible.
My
sherlockmas gift has just been posted today:
Twelve Days After Christmas is a great character study of Mycroft and brings some intriguing interaction between Mycroft and Irene. Because I totally believe these two have a lot in common and the mystery author for this fic shows perfectly why they could work together.
