[Futility!Verse. Locked to elegantinmind]

[It had been an odd little drive down to Kent, Eames leaning against the window of the back seat with Sherlock's head in his lap, lost in his thoughts. He had occassionally looked over to Arthur, smiling softly at the man to show that his silence had been nothing to do with him. Eames had been skittery since they arrived, like a man waiting for a trap to fall down on him, unable to cease his constant movement. The only time it had paused was when David, his pale, friendly looking godfather, had met them at the airport. He had given Eames a fierce hug, ruffled his hair, smiled intrigued in Arthur's direction before pressing a slip of paper and a key into Eames' slightly trembling hands. His passing greeting hadn't lasted enough time, but they had parted on a promise to meet up properly soon, after the two had gotten some sleep and were feeling better.

Now, standing outside the front door of a large, sprawling country house, it's just the pair of them and their dog. The car that had delivered them speeds off down the gravel path, Sherlock nudging the edge of one of the cases on the ground with his nose before sneezing, attention captured by a passing butterfly. The grounds are plush and green, covered in wild flowers and a few expansive trees and they can hear splashing from somewhere down an incline where a lake sits. The village sprawls just a little further, leaving them far enough out that it feels like their own little world.

Eames turns the key over in his fingers, looking up at the door with an unhappy little frown. His movement is sudden when he reaches out, gropes blindly for Arthur's hand. When he curls them together his grip is a little too tight. His lips mouth, twisting, before he whispers just low enough that Arthur might have to strain to hear it.]

I don't know if I can do this.
