Mod Post: New Rule Added

Aug 24, 2011 20:29

Hey there everyone, been a while hasn't it?

It's been brought to my attention that there has been a number of member introduction posts posted to the community. Introduction posts are posts that serve the one purpose of saying 'Hi, hello, I'm so-and-so and I like Eames/Arthur,' and otherwise don't stimulate or provide any sort of discussion, film- or character-based meta, or fanwork to be shared with the community. Meeting friends who like the same thing as you by introducing yourself is great, but that's what friending memes are for, not communities with a focus on sharing thoughts and creative works based around a pairing.

For that reason, a new rule has been added to the community profile that reads as follows:

While all kinds of film and character discussion is allowed and encouraged, this is not the place for introduction posts. They don't stimulate discussion and are very one-note, and we don't want a bunch of them clogging up the community. Don't post just to say hello unless you have a question, want to start a discussion, or have something else to share.

I've been busy with classes for a while now, so my monitoring of the comm was fairly lax, but now that this has been brought to my attention, I will be going through the comm and deleting all introductory posts that serve no other purpose (eg. asking questions/submitting a request/sharing a fanwork/starting a discussion). If members have questions/concerns about this policy, please leave them in the comments. I will most likely not be changing or removing this rule, but if demand is high, we can host a new friending meme here at the comm.
