If you've ever worried about how to find a public toilet in a foreign country, by the way, then Beijing is the place for you. I've read since the trip that a lot of the housing in the old hutongs or wherever doesn't necessarily have its own plumbing, so everywhere you turn in Beijing there are signs indicating "Public Toilets, 30m ->" or the like.
abjuk, later in the trip, would come to say "This is my kind of place. Giant bike lanes, food of all kinds on sticks, and a bathroom on every corner!"
If you do go, though, be warned -- apparently toilet paper is something you should keep with you because even the toilets are there, you can't guarantee there'll be anything for cleaning up with.
