For what it's worth, I'm playing in the daily telegraph fantasy football league. The rules are a little different (1 keeper, 4 defenders, 3 midfield, 3 strikers) but I noticed that you've got a few players in common with my team. I've got Lehmann (ARS), Terry, Bridge, Riise, Reisiger, Kewell, Robben, Ronaldo (who I forgot's playig for Portugal in the Olympics:D'Oh!), Reyes, Smith, Kexman (CHE)
I'm happy to give advice, and I came second in the lab league last year. Although my start was horrible! My personal recommendations for players would be Kewell, and Riise from Liverpool. They've got a better manager now, so should do a lot better than last season. Hence they may be cheaper than you'd think. Also, Finnan might be a good bargain, although how long he'll carry on a right midfield I don't know. Riise is great value, cos he scores free kicks, sometimes plays left midfield (if Kewell's injured) and Liverpool normally have a good defence.
Look at picking players new to the league: they may oftem be undervalued, especially from lesser teams. Also, go for players who spent a lot of last season injured. They are often undervalued (at least by the game I play)
As for your team, I have an irrational hatred of Jimmy Hasselbaink, so will never pick him. But he's probably a good option. Gronkaer blows very hot and cold. Depends on if he gets the hump with the manager. Anelka's similar, and Keegan is having a dodgy time of it at the moment.
If you want to please Dad, Stephen Carr may be a better bet. OK, so he left Spurs, but he was there a long time. Or get Defoe. He'll get a hatful this season.
Quedrue: get rid. I had him and he keeps getting sent off or booked. Middlesboro bought Reiziger, who may keep him out of the team.
I'll be interseted to re-read this at the end of the season, and see just how wrong I was.....
That's weird. Mine's the Daily Telegraph as well, but you seem to be playing with a different type of player distribution. I'm sure our mini-league operates on 442? What's your team name - I'll look you up!
Thanks for your player suggestions. Riise hadn't occurred to me and I may well go for him in a transfer later in the season if it appears appropriate. I think yesterday's knocking out of Portugal may validate your Ronaldo decision, he'll only miss one or two games and is a good buy. Difficulty with Carr is that Dad won't have heard of him...
I know Quedrue played last week and on your advice will keep a weather eye on him.
