House of Night

I finished listening to To Say Nothing of the Dog today. Thanks for the tip, penwiper337! It was a fun read/listen. I am now going to listen to the Southern Vampire series starting with the first one. I listened to one or two a few years ago, but they were in the middle of the series. The earlier ones weren't available on audio at that time. Thanks to True Blood (I guess), they are now all on CD. Yay! This should be fun.

I finished reading Rainbow's End about a week ago. There were some interesting ideas in it that will provide good material for the book discussion group in the fall. I think I'll read some more of Vernor Vinge's books after I finish my current spree of P.C. Cast.

I forget where I learned about the House of Night series, but I am glad I did. For some reason the Twilight series just didn't do it for me. I was meh about the first book, but tried the second anyway. I just didn't really care to read the rest of the series. I'm not exactly sure why. I usually like vampire stories and movies, so I expected to like Twilight. I didn't like the Anita Blake book I read either. I was afraid I may have lost interest in vampire story, but then I remembered how much I enjoyed the Southern Vampire books.

I loved Marked by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast. The spin they put on the vampire mythology by adding the worship of Nyx really appealed to me. I didn't want to put the book down. I really wanted to jump right into the second book, but since I waited so long for Dead Until Dark, I want to listen to it. I don't like to read a book similar to one I am listening to because it can be confusing. When I did some searching on P.C. Cast, I found out she writes paranormal romance. Cool! I love that subgenre. Unfortunately, the library only had one book not in the House of Night series. At least it was one the shelf. I snagged it and am already enjoying it. I'll have to see if I can find the others.
