Deirdre got her Pelican!! Woo-hoo!
Eldred and I journeyed back up the same stretch of road we traveled the weekend before. This time we didn't have to go as far and we were sharing a room. We had a grand time with Rhiannon and Deirdre. It's always such fun to share a room with them!
The weather Saturday morning was chilly and drizzly. I personally love that kind of weather, so I thought it was great. I wore my linen cap instead of a veil. Wow. I am a total convert to the cap. It was warmer than I expected and didn't get caught on the cloak like the veil does.
Most of my day was consumed with writing my speech since I was speaking for the Pelicans at the elevation ceremony. This was my first time doing this and I wanted to do a good job for Deirdre. I had thought all week about what I wanted to say, but I do my best work under pressure, so I had to wait until we got to site to write. I haven't written that much by hand in years. I ended up doing three drafts before getting something I was happy with. I wrote large enough so I didn't have to wear my reading glasses. It turned out kind of long, but it took that long to say what I wanted to say. I wasn't nearly as nervous as I expected to be either. I thought the ceremony went really well. And I am so excited that Deirdre was finally recognized as a peer. Whee!
