To Organize or Not to Organize?

Over the years I have come to terms with the fact that I will never live in a neat house. I am too much of a packrat. I am making an effort to declutter and tidy some, but I know the clutter will never disappear. That's okay. Most of the time. :-)

Last night I spent a frustrating hour or two trying to find some carpet yarn that I knew I had. I hunted through every box on the third floor. Or thought I did. I even opened a sealed box in a cabinet even though I knew I had seen the yarn since we moved. For some inexplicable reason, the sealed box contained some Legos and a plastic bag containing a few Happy Meal toys. I'll hang onto the toys in case I take up geocaching. They will make good trinkets to leave. I put the Legos in Eldred's scriptorium for him to examine. So,it wasn't a total loss. I also found a box of stuff from Lammas 2005 that I looked for last year and couldn't find.

I did eventually find the yarn. I had given up and was about to leave the room when I spied a smallish box under a boombox. I was sure it was too small, but investigated anyway. Sure enough, there was the yarn. The spools were not as large as I remembered nor were there many. The bonus was the many, many spools of 1/4" ribbon. In a lovely coincidence Takeda just put out a request yesterday for 1/4" ribbon for banners for WOPP. I remember now what happened. The carpet yarn was originally in a paper box with a bunch of crochet thread. Last summer when I did the library workshop, I took out the carpet yarn and carted the box of crochet thread to the workshop. I attempted to organize by neatly lining up the spools of ribbon by color in the bottom of a box, then putting the carpet yarn on top. It even says "weaving yarn" on the box! The problem is that I still remember the original box before the split, so that's what I was searching for. Sigh... I still think organizing is a good thing and need to do more of it, especially on the third floor.
