Retreat

Today was the Program Council retreat. At the November meeting we agreed to meet at the Fellowship form 9-1 so that we could focus on work, get it done, then leave for lunch. I arrived about 9:05 expecting things to already be going. Setup was still happening so I was in plenty of time. I set up my laptop to take notes. The meeting was really good. We had two big agenda items and one small one. The big ones were discussion of bylaws changes and discussion about lay leadership development. The meeting was very good and interesting. I hope we can implement some of the suggestions and improve participation. We got caught up in a long discussion about changes to the membership section of the bylaws so we didn't get time to really discuss some other changes that need to happen. Consequently, we decided to set up a study group to review the bylaws, suggest changes, and send the suggestions to the rest of the Program Council. I couldn't resist volunteering for this project!

I met Eldred for lunch at California Dreaming. I had my usual - California Dreaming Salad. Eldred had to return to work; I did some shopping. I had plans to go to some places on Woodruff Road, even though that is a horrifying prospect on a Saturday afternoon. I missed the turn off the interstate, so decided to stop a Home Depot instead. I found a cute penguin holiday mat. It is currently near the back door in the kitchen. Eldred really liked it when I showed it to him! I got a few other home repair type items that we needed. I scoped out the compact fluorescent bulbs. I hate the ones we have because they are orange-y. It seems there are many more choices now, including daylight ones. I may have to give that a try.

When I got home I finally changed the filter in the whole house water filter. The chlorine filter seems to have fixed the stinky water problem. I need to give it a few days to make sure since the problem seemed to come and go. Feeling accomplished after completing this task, I undertook another. I have been wanting to wash the siding on the front porch for a couple of years. The rail has gotten nasty and green recently too. The siding is really just dusty dirt. I got out the house cleaning attachment, attached it to the hose, put dishwashing detergent in the dispenser and cleaned the siding. It didn't take all that long. It was getting pretty dark by the time I finished. I didn't get to the railing. I want to do that tomorrow. I am determined to do it before putting out the holiday decorations. Speaking of which, someone on Hwy 81 already has lighte decorations out. We are waiting until after Thanksgiving.

I was soaked by the time I finished my siding cleaning. I took a shower then plopped on the couch to recuperate. I watched Girl With a Pearl Earring. I am not sure I would have enjoyed it if I had not listened to the book first. I don't think I would have gotten a lot of it. Also, the movie was more artsy that usually appeals to me. Since I knew the story, the movie was interesting.

Then I watched some TiVo stuff, including I Love the 70's: 1973. It sucked me in and I couldn't even check email while it was on! I think part of the appeal of that series is how irreverent the approach is. :-) I might need to watch American Graffiti again.
