My mother is the master of believing everything she hears. Things like Planned Parenthood giving abortions to non-pregnant women just so they can do an abortion and that smoking might be good for you because it toughens up the lungs (my brother told her that one when she was getting on his case for smoking). Her newest soapbox? Pro-life stuff, of course, but this one particular case specifically.

Last time we went to visit she was going on and on and on about this video that she recorded that had speakers talking on the National Day of Prayer. The one that our Esteemed Muslim President, King Obama, completely ignored the existence of because he's evil. How that works, I have no idea, but moving along. I gave in and let her show me a "five minute" segment that would "change my life and my views". I'm like, ok then?

It was an old guy giving his "testimony". He starts with how he and his wife really had wanted a baby in like, the seventies, and around 18-20 weeks his wife went into labor and thus his preemie was born. The nurses and doctor told him that there was no hope, but he stayed near his daughter in an incubator to let her know that her father will always be there - much like our Heavenly Father is there for us. Listening to His voice, like her listening to him, will lead to a full recovery in our lives. And lo and behold, his micro-preemie is now an adult! Medical science would have left her for dead. She could have been aborted even!

I didn't even have a chance to get into the stupidity before she flipped out, and all I said was, "While he might have had a preemie that survived, he most likely is highly embellishing on the age considering that the youngest preemie to survive was 21 weeks. I'm sure that if it happened it would have made headlines back then."

She, expectedly, flipped out as she went on about I'm so cynical, unbelieving and why would this good, Godly man lie? Why, I asked, perhaps to push an agenda. Never, a man of God would never do such a thing that would leave him being completely discredited if the truth ever came out. Why can't I just take it on faith.

I just had to roll my eyes and end the conversation. It's not worth it.
