DOWNLOAD PAGE Why? Because IT IS FRIDAY. Which obviously means that you need something like this. Also, because of
this post.
1. Angels + Fly (Album Instrumental) - High Contrast
I couldn't decide between the instrumental or the club mix, but, at last, I decided the instrumental would be better to start the album. High Contrast is Welsh drum&bass producer Lincoln Barrett, and all his songs are highly addictive and available on itunes.
Here is a pretty good article about his latest album.
2. Where's Your Head At - Basement Jaxx
Errr, it's Basement Jaxx. Are comments really needed?
3. Devil Inside - Max Sedgley
Three good reasons to listen to this song: 1. I read an article which described this as "like the Pink Panther on acid." 2. Another article described it as having a "70’s cop-movie bass line." 3. The woman who did the vocals is in a band named Crazy Penis.
4. Let The Sun Shine (Terrace Mix) - Milk & Sugar
They named their first full-length album,
housemusic.de, after their website. I'm not sure if that's crazy or a good move. This single got to the top 20s charts in the UK and Spain at one point. Also, we warm up to it at dance, so, yeah.
5. Casbah Wonder - Dunproofin'
Mashup of Stevie Wonder's "Uptight" laid over The Clash's "Rock the Casbah." It's pretty good, despite a few dodgy moments. It grows on you. Dunproofin' has more at
his website, but I haven't checked them out, so.
6. Cha Cha Heels (Ralphi Rosario Funky Heels Mix) - Rosabel
Gay, loud, and kind of tacky. Apparently you either love it or hate it, and as this is another song we use in dance class a lot, I decided it would cause less mental anguish to love it. Plus, it's kind of catchy. It was a big hit at circuit parties last summer, and apparently a hit (but not as big) in the dance scene as a whole. The saxophones or whatever are sampled from, I think, Gloria Estefan's "Oye," the "1-2 cha-cha-cha" is from Blondie, and ummm, there are a lot of other samples that I should be remembering but I'm not. I have a lot of other random knowledge about this song that I gained while trying to find if there was anywhere I could download it (that wasn't itunes or a p2p because I had no money for the former and can't ever get the latter to work), but I think a paragraph is probably enough.
7. Grand Saxo (Doc Phatt's Club Mix) - Primera Division
Thank you, itunes, for providing random house music with saxophones in it for when I need random house music with saxophones in it.
8. E - Drunken Munkey
Eh, yeah, I kind of gave up on transitioning smoothly between "Cha Cha Heels" and "Racing Green" and started sticking things in. It works ... I think.
9. Racing Green - High Contrast
This song was apparently #2 for drum&bass/breakbeats in Europe last year ... or something. Whatever. It gets stuck in my head pretty frequently. I <3 this song like whoa.
10. One More Time - Daft Punk
corollary: LCD Soundsystem's "Daft Punk Is Playing At My House"
11. Dance Till The Morning - Brazilian Girls
We all know that this band rocks. And now we know that this song rocks the hardest.
12. Devil Inside - Utada Hikaru
I didn't mean to put this one on here, since I already had the Max Sedgley song by the same name, but it insisted on wiggling its way in. And it's different enough from the other one that I figured it was alright. It's the only good song off of Utada's latest album.
13. The Bomb! (These Sounds Fall Into My Mind) - The Bucketheads
I don't really have anything to say about this song. I like it, but I can't think of anything about it at the moment (possibly this is because I've been working on this mix for the past like ... 12 hours, pretty much straight through).
14. Boom Shakata - Renegade Master
This song amuses me. I didn't actually want to put it on here, but I needed something to transition into the thumping electro of Tiga, and it worked okay, so, you know.
15. Burning Down - Tiga
Tiga is
hot. He owns a
record label and co-owns a
line of clothes (his girlfriend designs them). And, like, I did mention that he makes music and is
pretty, right? (Plus, the biography on
his website is kind of amusing. (Errr, possibly I only think he's pretty because of the eyeliner. But, hey, whatever, right?)
Umm, so that took quite a while. Like, all day. But it was this or English homework, and so, well, you know how it goes. Now I'm alternately
chilling and
rocking out to Elliott Smith B-sides and
live tracks. Wheee.
And, errrr, I worked on this a really long time, so I'd appreciate it if you gve it a listen and leave a comment (even if just to let me know you downloaded & listened to it). I mean, obviously you don't haaaaaaave to, but I thought people might like new music (I always do) and like, it would be nice. Or something. Maybe I'm just insecure.
