Yesterday, I saw Kung-Fu Panda.... and gosh, I love it to bits. The story was entertaining, the shots were beautiful and the colors, the colours were AMAZING.
And somehow, seeing an inspiring animation made me realise I should sit down and write my goals. Since I've offcially started my commission "break", it's time to list the things I wish to work on for the next 6 months.
1) Finish my animated short "Lili and The Frog Prince": this is going well. I want to finish the layout and background coloring for the end of June. There are 32 scenes to do, a few are done now. But I need to have better focus or the layout done in June might not be possible.
2) Character design: study caricature and push myself to do different types of characters and try to implement it to my work, both animation and painting. Coming up with a character design every week (at sketch stage, or color stage)
3) backgrounds: I've been lazy ever since college, used to do them a whole lot more, now I don't. The goal is to add a background to everything I do as much as I can, both painting and animation types of backgrounds. Doing random backgrounds as an exercice might also be a good thing to do.
4) Do one to two paintings a month on subjects that are different to what I usually do. I have a list and even thumbnails or ideas that I've always wanted to do. Hopefully I can do a few of these in the next months.
5) Focusing on the learning experience: trying new mediums, focusing on learning how to use them instead of worrying about the end result.
6) Working on a schedule and sticking to it: This is something that is getting better with the years, but still need to push this further. I need to be able to see my own limits and schedule things according to those limits.
It starts now!
