So as I said, this weekend was something else. Never have I been so wiped out by 3 days by just having to do so damned much!
Alright, the exception being school, but that's a different kind of wiped out. This was actually pretty good.
So on Friday I left this hothouse for UNM at about 4. We had all planned to conglomerate at UNM to play a little Arkham Horror. A few of my own friends are really big Cthulhu nuts, so they wanted to see it. Well, it turns out that the bunny had forgotten his ENTIRE bag of monsters in Las Vegas, NM. Blah! Needless to say, a big game like that probably would have not played very well. So we decided to hop in the car because bunny was hungry.
Little did I know that this was an act of subterfuge. While he was actually hungry, it was all just a ploy to venture out to Active Imagination to purchase the new Insmouth Horror expansion. Uncertain if this would be enough to play, we decided to invite Todd over anyway to plot with us. After opening the box, and realizing that there were a suficient number of monsters that came with the game. We decided on a whim to play a game. Actually, it was somewhat uneventful. we actually won without trying really too hard. The game in fact lasted about 2 hours, which is completely uncharacteristic of Arkham. But still, it was something to do on a Friday night.
Between Friday night and Saturday morning, the bunny and I were stumped with what to bring to Albufurque. We'd been talking about it for a week or so prior, and decided that we're not bringing desert... since that's all everyone ever seems to bring-- not that dessert's bad though, mind you, heck, I probably eat more desert than actual food. But we went to bed without knowing what we were going to bring. When I woke up, it was as clear as day: I'd make Danish sandwiches. These are open-faced ornate sandwiches that can have pretty much whatever on them. The only stipulation is that they have to look nice and artsy. I love food, and I love making food look nice, and I've a particular knack for it, it seems. Whether it tastes good or not... well, usually I hit that about 50% of the time. Sometimes I just ruin things. So we took a shower, and headed off to my grandma's house, just to make sure the plan was feasible. It was, so we bought ingredients, and returned. I settled on smoked salmon, tuna, salami, ham, boiled eggs, lettuce, tomatoes, and some horseraddish as my ingredients, and went ahead and started to stack them in various combinations.
Christ, was I building up a storm.
While the bunny slept, I was stacking sandwich ingredients on small slivers of bread as if it would prevent the apocolypse. I was sweating by the time I was done (not on the food, don't worry!), but damn was it fun! I Since they required quite a bit more attention, I got about 22 of them put together by 5:00 (the party started at 4), and figured that nobody would probably eat them anyway, since they're just sandwiches, so I figured that would be enough. After awakening a grumpy bunny, we headed on our way and arrived. The rest of the night was a blast.
Of the food though, I'll say that I was totally mistaken. Those tiny sandwiches went away in the first 10 minutes! Next time I do that, I'll definitely plan with more time ahead so I can get more in.
The rest of the evening was pretty social. We watched movies, played board games, video games, acted like complete nuts, watched Pedo Bear rape a princess... fun stuff like that! At one point, I had a little bit *too* much to drink, and had to lay down for a little while. Otto IMd me on my iPod while I was laying down. Apparently kate was trying to drag him to Albufurque. I was mostly joking when I asked if we ought to drag him down, but he was seriously considering it. Eventually, I told him to do whatever, and figured he wouldn't come. But sure enough, thirty or so minutes later, he arrived. Kate deserves an achievement. Perhaps there's one for awakening a reclusive monster and leading him to be social with people he doesn't even know x3 ... and I guess he didn't have a terrible time. indeed, the pedo bear action seems to have amused him.
We played Smash Bros. for the rest of the evening. And that's just about when things settled down, and people began to leave. By this time it was 2AM .
That was definitely a successful Albufurque. I'm really quite glad I discovered this group. :]
So when we got home, we flumped in bed, and slept. I woke up early because my dad wanted to meet for Father's day at Cliff's Amusement park. I woke up, went to get breakfast. I had frontier in mind... until I saw the line. So I decided then to try Perrico's, which is on Central and Yale, and ended up getting a Carne Adovada burrito. Then I went to McDonald's to get a coffee, and then to Einstein Bros. to get a bagel for the sleeping bunny. Honestly, I should have just waited in line, because it probably took me longer just to go to all of those places, than it would have just standing there. And the burrito wasn't that great. I doubt I'll be going back there.
My brother picked me up at Dunkin' Donuts (where I bought a single doughnut so I could simply sit in their cafeteria) and waited for my brother to pick me up. They arrived, I hopped in, and we went to Cliff's. When we got there, we realized that the hours were different on Sunday than the rest of the week. So we just killed an hour by sitting around and talking before it opened. The rest of the time in the park was a blast. It's been *years* since I'd been there. First thing we did was to go on the log ride, which was most fun. After that, it was the tilt-a-whirl. I think I almost passed out on that one :| it was a total rush. something new that they have that they didn't before are the raft waterslides. That was probably what we did the most while we were there. Matthew went out of his way to splash everyone he went with with water.
It was just generally a fun time for all. At the end of the day, we settled down for some Taco Cabana, another place where I hadn't eaten in years. The food there is damned good for the price, and I had forgotten completely about it. I had a large filling fajita plate, and ended up buying 2-dozen of their god-tortillas. Needless to say, by the time I got back to UNM at 10pm, I was wiped, and soon after just collapsed on the bunny's bed, and slept well until 1PM the next day.
As I said in my last post, we took the rail runner for a spin on Monday, and I took quite a few photos, testing out my new camera. We stopped at the Flying Star while we were there, and I had a delicious Monte Cristo sandwich that held me over for the entire evening.
And then class began again on Tuesday. What an abrupt shake back to reality it was for me. I have probably never been so disappointed that classes were beginning again. It's now Wednesday, and I'm too hot to move around to do anything, so I'm just updating my LiveJournal.
Can anyone recommend a good space cooler? Or know where I can get a cheap air conditioner?
I had pictures, but livejournal keeps fucking up my cuts >:|
