Writer's Block: Life Changes

Apr 16, 2009 16:09

Out of my personal life?
I'd have to say it was my decision many years ago to drop Christianity and pick up atheism. It not only helped me develop into a better person, but it really activated me to be even more interested in science and to realize the influence that science will have on our continued development as a human species. Because of this, I know that we're all in this thing called "living" for the long run, and I have a renewed sense of respect for my fellow humans that isn't based on the pointless fear that we're going to some sort of terrible afterlife of eternal torture.

So that's that.

In other news, I just woke up a few hours ago after sleeping for 14 hours. o_O!
I slept for 2 hours one night, 8 hours the next, and 2 hours again. As beksuki  put it, "yeah, that's your body saying fuck this!" On the bright side, Wednesdays are my Fridays, one of my finals was completed, and I have two more due on Monday, then I'm free! Well, I'm mostly free, except for the release party of the Leonardo Magazine on the 22nd, but that doesn't really count, being a party at all. If anyone's interested in attending just let me know and I'll give more details in a reply.

A few weeks ago was my birthday (yay!) My 21st wasn't as interesting as I thought it would be. Nobody ended up buying me a single drink until an entire week afterward. I don't really mind, but so many people threatened to take me out that I just thought more interesting things would happen. I got a $25 gift card to the Flying Star from my grandma, a dinner at  the Olive Garden from my dad, and some tickets to a Disturbed concert from my bunny. :D

Yeah, I went to a Disturbed concert, and it was pretty awesome. Okay, so I had been hinting at it for a few weeks admittedly before my birthday, so I *sort of* expected it. And on the day they were in town, I had pretty much resigned to the thought that we weren't going to go. I guess the reason I thought this is because my very own way of giving someone a concert-gift is to tell them immediately so that they don't go out and buy tickets of their own, even if it's months until their birthday or christmas, or whatever. So the fact that he kept this under wraps for several weeks without letting me know about it was a feat too. But then again, I never look in the Smash Bros. case in which he sneakily kept them.

But I digress,
When we actually got there, inside the arena (after being skimped by security) we had a blast. This is the first actual rock concert I have been to. We were on the floor, standing and it was... interesting. I didn't really care for the amount of smoke down there, but it wasn't too overwhelming, and I got to make an ass of myself jumping up and down like everyone else around me. :P throught the night, at least 5 mosh pits formed spontaneously around us, and I politely abstained from all of them, but it was amusing to watch. As for the bands themselves, I have a mixed review. While I understand that live performances, particularly those in arenas, will NEVER sound like CD productions, I was not able to actually hear the lyrics over the acoustics. I have to say I probably enjoyed Mike Wengren's amazing drum solo that came near the end before Disturbed emerged with their obligatory "encore" of Indestructible after falsely saying "Good night!".

The other bands we saw, Lacuna Coil and Killswitch Engage were cool, but like I said, I wish I could have heard the vocals a little more. All I could hear from Lacuna Coil was when Cristina Scabbia screamed "I am spellbound!" At the top of her lungs. But the music was energetic enough that I remained interested despite that. I'm definitely going to consider purchasing an album or two.

As dragoncrescent  mentioned, David Draiman has a much higher live-performance voice than the albums, but I expected that really. I wasn't disappointed though, and I still think he's kinda hot. :P

So that's my first real update in a few weeks. I have a lot more to talk about, but it's mostly about school, and I'll post about that after all of my classes are finished.

Now back to homework.

I hope to find you all well,

Love,
-Eagle
