Does this picture offend you? Good.
Join the Catholics of the Southwestern United States who had to endure the image of a virgin in a two-piece swimsuit.
Or Faithful Christians in Pensylvania where a guy made Jesus give him a blowjob.
There are many more examples I could gleefully post, but I'll refrain.
Above all, welcome to modern Western Civilization, where our presses are free to roll whether they offend the majority, the minority, or anyone in between without fear from repercussions. Yes, even after an attack, the publications continue, and they will continue, and they will outlive the lifespan of your insignificant man-made myths. Though you have murdered cartoonists, journalists, police officers, and some people in a Jewish market just doing their shopping, at the end of the day your personal Jihad was a miserable failure. Charlie Hebdo has again published an image of the Prophet Muhammed. Charlie Hebdo went from a struggling french rag with a circulation of 60,000 to a publication that might reach several million. People from around the world backed the left-wing irreverant paper in support of the very free speech that brought forth these cartoons in the first place. One of the police officers you murdered was a devout Muslim himself. And in some ways, it was even fitting that you attempted to kill a printed publication because you died on the doorstep of a printing plant. The only thing that would have been more fitting is if you died in a vat of ink, or ground into paper pulp after falling into a paper mill.
Whatever the case. Good fucking riddance. I'm happy that the media in the West didn't fold to fear, and I'm happy that it seems that we can continue to exist for at least one more year without giving into one facet of Sharia law. I hope it stays that way. I hope it sends a clear message to all extremist fanatics living in the boundaries of our (mostly) secular democracy. I hope that everyone has learned a lesson about just how powerful satire can be, and how it must remain absolutely imperative in our society until the malignant cancer that it rages against is forced to realize that it is rather a benign tumor, and fades into obscurity like the rest of man's gods.
That's what I hope for. I have been pleasantly surprised by the worldwide reaction to the failed attempt to fizzle out ideas. While I still think the root of this problem is codified in the text of the Quran, the stand that everyone took in support of the paper to put a foot down, ensuring that the presses of satire will stop for absolutely no one.
