Time for a brain dump!

Woo! Designed my first invitation for a gay wedding!

Heh, it was kind of funny really. I've been trying to curb my design workload for the last few months, with measurable success. I've stopped accepting design jobs from the sales guy at work. It means less revenue, but it also means less stress in my life. I think I've reached an okay balance.

In any case, this job was tossed at me by the salesman as he decided that handling a gay wedding was too much for his Christian values. The couple was pleasant enough for the huge rush they were in. They pretty much let me do my own thing, and we ended up with a very decent looking invitation! I'm wondering if this might lead to more work down the road as they tell other people where they got these designed/printed. We'll see!

Other than that, my carpentry class for this semester is still going well. I have made a fairly decent table. It's kind of funny how challenging the project is. I know several locations where the table is not square, and the measurements are wonky. I notice it when I look at it, but everyone else is pretty impressed by it, and seem to overlook the flaws. I'm okay with this, as it's just a table for my living room. If I were to sell it though, I know that such flaws would be unacceptable. I'm still learning more and more techniques as time goes on by, so hopefully after a few more classes, I'll be in pretty good shape!

Here's a picture of the table so far. The bloody thing is freaking heavy!

In other news, it's been quite a while since I've posted about my family. I think last time I had mentioned that things seemed to be falling back to normal -finally-. Well, I can say with certainty that things are indeed normal. Are there hiccups every now and then? Oh sure. The drama is never going to stop. But the absolute toxicity seems to have diluted over the past year or so. I'm on regular terms with my parents and my extended family. I also have a new niece, as my sister and her boyfriend conceived. It's interesting to see my siblings grow up. When I started college, my sister was 12, and my little brother was 10. My sister entered her terrible teens with a vengeance, and took full advantage over my parents' divorce by rebelling against both of them, making some pretty dumb mistakes, and managed to pick up her shit at the last minute just like I did, and headed for graduation. She had started to go to college, but naturally, childbirth took front and center. I'll be interested to see what this will do for her path in life.
My little brother is still trailing behind. His mentality is definitely a lot like mine was at his age. He's like a miniature me, plus pot and skateboarding. He doesn't really care about school, but the pressure from everyone around him to do well in it stresses him out to no end. I remember the feeling well, and inevitably I'm pretty sure he's going to do what I did, and pull through in the end.
My older brother separated from his girlfriend with whom he has two girls. It's pretty freaking weird because they still appear together at parties and such, but they live separately. And they both have love interests on the side. And people call furry relationships weird...
And that's just it really. It's not that any specific fandom relationships are weird, it's that people in general have weird concepts of relationships. If you focus on the way that people conduct their relationships, it's always different. I think given time, the current standards will erode away. It's an inevitability.

We've kind of sort of adopted another cat. Kind of sort of, because he just decided one day that he'd waltz into our house, make himself cute, and curl up in a corner. He has the most adorable poses of any cat I've had before. Our old fat black cat, Zen, is living up to his name, and is quite mellow about the whole affair. They generally just stay apart. I think he's a lot less bored with a fellow feline friend around.

Def Leppard re-released an album called "Slang" recently. They played the entire thing with commentary on Coyote 102.5, which is the local classic rock station here in Albuquerque. I liked the way it sounded. It's modern rock at its finest... but it was released first in the early 90s I think. Holy crap! They were really ahead of their time. And of course that means that the album completely tanked the first time around. It's a completely different sound when compared to their earlier discography, and I'm glad I had the chance to re-discover it. It's always nice to add new songs to my library.

Overall I'm doing pretty well, and I'm content. I have more to post about, but I think I'll save it for another submission in the future.

Hope you all are well!
