New Poem! (finally)

Nov 10, 2006 16:01

I've finally written another poem. It's been a while since I was able to write anything I didn't cross out furiously five minutes later, but this one I'm proud of. Please comment and critique!

"The Horror"

Gratifying chaos forces our minds into darkness,
Gone are the days of peaceful ignorance,
How mankind has come to such a boiling point;
History serves only passing counsel,
The future has never be clear.

"I know not what to do," he exclaims,
"For so long my tears have watered the gardens of heaven,
All that I've been has been in hope for your prosperity,
All that I have is at your feet.

I travel down the paths of men,
Seeing all that they cannot,
Such pure beauty which still remains,
However distant to your eyes.
I walk the trees far from human reach,
The lesser children hide my steps.
Once, I might have shown myself, but now
I fear no one would care.
Gone are the simple days, when men accepted what they saw,
Now all that remains are statues of the past,
How it's come to this I cannot say,
How it will end I do not know,
For the first time in my eternal life I know fear,
Fear for the children,
Fear for the future, the chaos that they will face,
Fear for the horror...the horror...so near to us now.
Why so few can see it i do not know,
Why so many refuse to listen I may never understand,
I will not presume to know perfection for even
Divinity know love and anger,
But my god, you fools, how do you live with such blindness,
Such utter disregard for what you need to survive,
Such sickening ignorance,
You know where you're headed
Why do you insist on ignoring the signs,
They're so clear, so fucking obvious,
Yet you still stay blind to the horror you're leaving to your children,
The damage they must try to mend,
The violence they will have to face, the...
...the children...the horror..."

As he travels through the world he marvels at the beauty laid out before him,
Beauty that still remains despite all that man has done,
For the Earth was here long before them, and will remain until the end.

The boy walks on to where the mountains meet the sky,
To where he once stood before the world began,
Moved beyond the point of tears,
He raises his arms to voice his torment when from the valley a feather lands in his open hand,
And a Raven lands beside him.

"As the winds must blow and the tides must change,
So must my heart never linger,
Long has it been Methuselah.

I come to offer what hope I may,
They are not lost my son.
Through the darkness that seems to cover all,
Light still shines though dim it be;
Let not hope escape your soul,
Go to those, whose eyes are open,
Though no more can they hear your voice,
Your strength has power yet,
The horror of which you speak in fear
is not the only end to the journey,
Remember that the future is known to none.
And even if they fall in flame,
You will not perish, nor will they,
A golden age of man will rise again."

As father and son depart once more,
The boy turns to face the rising menace.

"Father, I hear your words,
Though I know not what hope I still hold for them,
I will not forsake my burden,
I will help them till the end,
And when that day comes,
When all is done and the Earth is dead,
I will end with them."
