(from here)

That's... uh, that's pretty crazy. I'm not sure what to say-- how the hell did he manage to stumble on this stuff?

It's what he does.

Your husband, my voice twin, has a pretty damn unique talent, then. Just saying.

I don't know about that. You make it sound like you've attracted that sort of trouble yourself.

Trouble was already looking for me. I think it's better to say I avoided trouble for a long time.

What I'm trying to lead into here is that I've been through this whole thing before. I can tell you're up to something. I mean, you traced your ancestry back to the Crusades. And I know I'm bringing up a sore point here, but something happened in Italy. I don't know as much about this as Nate does, but I can connect the dots between the Holy Land and Rome.

So what is it? Did Crusader knights steal something eight hundred years ago and now you're going to what? Steal it back?

[oh boy, a laugh, before he shakes his head]

You're pretty sharp. I actually didn't do the tracing myself-- you could say trouble did that for me. And you're right, it was for something that was hidden-- but it was my ancestors doing the hiding.

[he considers for a minute]

Have you heard of the animus? I figure if it's around where you're from, you or your husband probably would have heard about it.

That sounds like Latin, but no if it's some sort of artifact, he's never mentioned it to me.

The word probably was derived from latin, but I couldn't say for sure.

Anyway, it's not an artifact. It's... Basically, you can see the memories of your ancestors through your dNA, and the animus lets you do that, with a few side effects.

... Even though I just told you about El Dorado turning Nazis into zombies and then visiting Shambhala, that sounds a little difficult to accept.

Yeah, I wouldn't believe it either if I hadn't spent about 2 months straight in one. First, I was living Altair's memories, and then it was Ezio Auditore da Firenze.

So, that's why trouble was looking for me.

So someone put you in the gene Matrix for two months to relive the lives of your ancestors to find the treasure that they hid?

Not that long. 6 weeks was of my own volition. And that's really just the short version of the story.

I want to say that's like cheating. Anyway, what was that about 'side effects?'

Uh-- yeah, I should. Probably warn you about that. It's called the bleeding effect-- basically, it makes it hard to, what's the word Lucy used, "compartmentalize." So I see memories even when I'm not in the Animus.

Like acid flashbacks? Lord, why would you voluntarily do that to yourself?!

There wasn't really much of a choice-- in a race against time, you've got to put up and shut up sometimes.
