With everything going on at the moment I wanted to provide a distraction of sorts, something you may find amusing, you may look forward to or you may not care about. The decision is yours.
In any case, with Uncle Kev's $950 easter present looking somewhat likely (maybe) I should logically save the money to go towards car, house etc...but from what I understand that is not the purpose of the cash. It's to be used to stimulate the economy, it's to be used to buy stuff.
So, I've decided to use it to stimulate the economy of a local games dealer and a local Magnet Mart store and bring to life an idea I've had for quite a while, ever since I saw Gran Turismo 5.
Roleplayer in a Reasonably Priced Car.
Some background: the game Gran Turismo 5 for the PS3 is going to have the Top Gear Test track when it is released at Christmas later this year. That sparked the idea; get a roleplayer to have some practice laps in one of the games more reasonably priced cars, then have them post a time for others to compete against. Throw in a webcam and the in game footage and you have yourself a video segment.
Gran Turismo Prologue is out now, a 'teaser trailer' version of the game, and so I'll be using another track until the full version is released. We'll call this "Season One", and possibly change the car for 'Season Two'. It'll give me an opportunity to iron out any kinks and so forth before the actual track is released.
There will be tags and so forth for people with racing experience and also those who have played GT5 before, but otherwise Roleplayer in a Reasonably Priced Car (and the website) will (hopefully) be coming out in time for Pheno. Not necessarily to be run at the con (I'll have to talk to Ryan about that) but since there will be a large slab of my Melbournian friends coming up for it, I'll have to get you all to sit down and post a time.
If we don't get the Easter money then it probably won't happen...or it might if I am crazy enough (actually, I really want to do it, and yes, other folks have PS3's in Canberra but I'm really enthusiastic about this idea and want to keep it my own in an overly possessive sort of way).
And if the government decide to send the money to Victoria instead, I won't be unhappy about that at all.
What do people think?
