My last day of summer camp was yesterday. It was a month-long trial run for the school, basically, and it went phenomenally well. Hard, but satisfying and successful.
I'm struggling with what it means to be on staff only two days a week. I'm used to being the one keeping the whole thing together or, before that, to being the chief confidant and minion for the one keeping the whole thing together. This four person collaboration, in which I'm there less than half the time... It's hard. But right now it's the right choice for myself and my family. I hope, down the line, to be able to do 3 days a week. I don't want more than that, possibly not until after Sarah has graduated and moved on to her next project.
School starts in something like three and a half weeks. I could easily spend those weeks in a sort of holding pattern, spending a couple hours a day working on school stuff and the rest of the time just kind of hanging around waiting for school to start. The thought of that is both relaxing and depressing.
I want... It's silly, but what I really want is one of those 80s summer makeovers. You know, the protagonist goes away for the summer, or gets involved in some project for the summer, and comes back into her life transformed in some way. (and, yes, I want the superficial parts of it, too -- coming back with a whole new style, and a confidence that I didn't have before the adventure started)
Three and a half weeks is enough time for a mini transformation, I think. Definitely enough time for an adventure.
