The week in review

Feb 26, 2006 10:07

Well, Katherine promised me that she would read my "week in review" journal entries. Plus, I have a few other people who claim that they would like to know what is going on in my life. So here is my first shot as a review of the past week.

Sunday:
Still recovering from this nasty cold, I laid in bed *way* too long. When I finally got up I did some random homework that I still had leftover, mostly French. While I try not to have to work on Sundays, last weekend I was terrible. Once I got my random homework finished I began to work on physiology of organisms problems. I got through quite a few before I left for church. Church was church; nothing spectacular. Came back home, watched "Desperate Housewives" and continued to study physiology until I became frustrated and went to bed.

Monday:
Got up, showered, ate, took a quiz for my French conversation class, went to my three of my four hours of back-to-back classes (the first one was canceled), went to my TA meeting, talked to my physiology professor about one of the problems, went to Biol 152 then came come and studied physiology bunches. I ate dinner and got my bag ready to go to my physiology exam (you knew all that studying had to be for something). I took my physiology exam and then came home and relaxed and went to bed.

Tuesday:
Got up, showered, ate, went to my radiation safety class. I love this class because I am seriously the only one without a Ph.D. But it is fine because I know that taking this class now is going to help me done the road. It will be one less course that I have to take as a graduate student. In class, we worked on surveying an area for radioactive materials. It was really easy but that's been the trend of the class. Yea! After class I came home, ate lunch, did some random things then went to western civ. lecture. It was truly boring and the room was super hot. The girl next to me was quite annoying and I really wished that if she didn't want to be in class that badly she hadn't come. After class I took a practice GRE. My verbal skills are just about where I thought they were. My math skills are not so much. Fractions are going to kill me!

Wednesday:
Same morning routine (that's why it is called a routine), followed by four hours of class, lunch, Biol 152. After Biol 152 I came home and did random things including grocery shopping! Then I went to teach my Biol 152 discussion. I have normally had one or two students but on Wednesday I had 14! Well, it was the day before the exam. We went through the practice exams and then through all the plant problems and finished a bit early. Yea! I think it was helpful. After my discussion, my physiology professor was holding a discussion on grad schools. She decided to make it at 8:30 because of me so I thought that I should show up. It turned out to be really quite fascinating. Of the 6 people there, there was only one other guy who had any clue about grad school. It was kind of amazing. There was one boy who didn't know what tenure was. I was shocked.

Thursday:
Oh Thursday, how I do love you. Having but one class on Thursdays is wonderful. Thursday morning I went into the lab and worked with Dr. Smith (Deb) for about two hours. I helped Tipwan (a foreign exchange grad student) autoclave some pipette tips and then read a couple of articles on the computer. I came home and made lunch and then worked on some homework. At 7, I was in class and it really starting to improve. There are still some things that I would do differently but at least I don't hate it as much as I did before.

Friday:
Got up, Class, Class, Class, Class, lunch, Class. Got myself a much needed coffee drink and then went into the lab. I was only planning on doing a single extraction but Tipwan was around so I ended up doing some work on the computer. I set up my own profile, figuring that I might start spending more time in the lab especially if there are others around. I ended up leaving around 6:30 and came home and made myself dinner. Then I went back to doing homework. Joel got off work early so we decided to go see the "Pink Panther" movie. It was great. I know that Joel didn't think so highly of it but it made me laugh which was exactly what I needed.

Saturday:
Got up before the sun rose and went and proctored a practice MCAT. It was nice to get paid to study. I mainly read physiology, some western civ, and a chapter of psychology. I was quite productive. During the lunch break I went grocery shopping for stuff for dinner. After the exam I went to Kinko's because my employer wanted me to fax her the results. Well, first off Kinko's charges an arm and a leg to fax long distance: about $1 a page. Then, their machine is a hunk of junk. It took me four tries to fax all of the pages I had. They only charged me for 35 pages even though I had 41 because they knew how frustrated I was. Got home (finally) and started cooking dinner. Whew, it took long enough but it was super good. I even made vegetables that Joel ate. We had steak, gnocchi (in honor the of the end of the olympics) and carrots and bok choy. It was very good but because of all the cooking we didn't have time to clean up before we left to go here "Jesus Christ Superstar" at one of the local bars. It was fabulous! There weren't many seats so we ended up sitting on the floor in front of the stage. Some of the people I had heard from other bands but this was truly cool. They sang all of the songs from "Jesus Christ Superstar" and had cool lighting effects. Truly well done. Because we went to the early show there was a little baby there. He was super cute. It was obvious that this was not his first concert because he was wearing ear plugs like a pro. During the intermission I asked his father if his kid had been to concerts before and he responded "Oh definitely but this is his first rock concert." Awww. I hope my kids are little Levi wearing, ear plugged, concert goers. And to think, just a year ago I wasn't going to that many concerts outside of the Lied.

Well, that's the week. Now I have to clean up Saturday's dinner mess and take a shower. I was thinking of heading down to the GAP before church but we shall see. Have a good week all.
