“Do you have everything, Neville?” his grandmother asked watching him stuff the last few books into his trunk. Closing it and picking up Trevor, his frog, he nodded. “Come along now, then, you don’t need to miss the train.” Taking his hand into her hers, they apparated to just outside King’s Cross Station.
“Listen to everything your professors tell you Neville, I don’t need to find out that you have been getting into any trouble, do you understand?” she asked walking into the station.
“Yes, Gran,” he said. His stomach seemed to be tying itself into knots. He could finally go to Hogwarts, the best wizarding school in the world, and he felt paralyzed with fear. If his gran had not been there to drag him through the magical barrier to the Hogwarts Express, he probably would have still been hiding in the stop they had apparated to. Although the Longbottom family had had plenty of powerful sorcerers in the past, there had been a long period of time where everyone had wondered if Neville had any magic at all. Some power had showed up when he was eight, but now he wondered if it would be enough.
“Go on, Neville,” his gran said pushing him towards the train. “You need to get going. Do our family proud.” There was a skeptical look in her eye as she said it.
“I’ll try,” he mumbled and with a last wave boarded the train.
Gulping as he walked down the center aisle, looking for a free compartment, he wondered how, when there were so many other students so obviously more talented than he, he could ever make his gran proud of him, let alone his parents.
