The dangers of tool lust

Aug 13, 2009 09:39

I admit it, I'm very suseptable to tool lust.  I was recently at a "home goods" type store with my mom and found a set of two ceramic and metal egg coddlers.  Cobalt blue, like my Le Cruset!  So cute and traditional, and so cheap!  So I bought them, unitaskers though they may be.
(Their task it to hold raw eggs in a pot of boiling water until the eggs are cooked)
Yesterday I had a bit of trouble getting the lid off, but it did unscrew after a minute or so.
Today - no luck at all.  Dave theorizes that some steam escaped during the cooking process, so that when the metal contracted as it cooled a little bit it cr
eated a vacumn.  I reheated it but still it won't budge a bit.
So how did I cook a second pair of eggs?  The way I had been before the tool lust struck me.  I lightly oiled the inside of a teacup; broke in two eggs and microwaved it for about 48 seconds.  Slides out like butter.  No lid to stick.  I'm probably going to have to toss the one I can't open because it has eggs in it.
