Get ready for a lifestyle change! anonymous December 15 2004, 18:02:05 UTC
I hope you understand that your husband, the bread winner, will soon find that because of your actions, he in no longer employable. Have him practice these lines: “Would you like fries with that?” Also, he might want to look into obtaining the user’s manual for a Fry-King or Fry-O-Lator.

How do you know that he's the bread winner incidentally? Or do women not get to work in your worldview? And how would anyone know who her spouse is anyway,

Luckily, not everyone out there is a total callous idiot like you. Some people think that treating staff like human beings pays off in the long term (and that it is anyway the morally correct way to behave).

Read the original story, Fuck Face, she clearly explains the domestic situation. Now shut the fuck up.

Way to undercut your position with petty name calling.

BTW I won't be a coward ;) I'll stand by my words.

Your assumption is everyone is as vendictive as you think. It would not be that hard for him to find work if he became known... Some would even LOOK to hire him for the simple PR value. (Oh LORD the fun a good HR PR person could have hiring him)

I find your attitude disgusting.

Worker's rights in the United States are at their lowest point since the 1930's, and they are continuing to slide.

There is no reason why someone should be unemployable because they are interested in getting compensated for the hours they work. The real problem is that there is a system in place that exploits people -- yes, exploits.

If EA wants to pay people for 80 hour weeks, then let them be up front about it. Then, when someone accepts the job, they know exactly what they are getting into, and only they can determine whether or not it's a high enough salary.

Being put in a position where you either have to accept being exploited, or make yourself unhirable is a crime against workers. It's called collusion, and it's illegal.

Like it or not, it's what made America the world's leading nation.

Why doesn't Germany or France or some other country with restrictive labor laws to inforce "workers' rights" have a world-dominating game industry (or a world-dominating anything industry)?

LEADING?

Are you kidding?

People who think that quality of life is measured only in dollars and cents are the ones responsible for travesties like this in the first place.

I would say the world's leading nation is probably Sweden. They actually have BOTH a higher standard of living as measured in dollars and cents AND much higher quality lives as measured in time spent enjoying friends and family. They have social structures that support families and relationships without sacrificing material prosperity. They have their cake, and eat it too. Here we're obsessed with getting as much cake as we can, and then throwing it on the ground for someone else to clean up. Our children have plenty of electronic toys and not enough love. Our industries have plenty of fat bottom lines and not enough happy workers.

If being a greedy bastard is your number one priority in life, if that's the way you measure the success of a nation, then I feel sorry for you. Personally, I'd rather be eating cake.

"Leading" my ass.

Hmmm, and posting this kind of recidivist clabbertrap would make you what? Not an antisocial freak? Back to the stainless steel play-pen for you.

Words from Machiavelli anonymous December 15 2004, 19:36:49 UTC
"And let it be noted that there is no more delicate matter to take in hand, nor more dangerous to conduct, nor more doubtful in its success, than to set up as the leader in the introduction of changes. For he who innovates will have for his enemies all those who are well off under the existing order of things, and only lukewarm supporters in those who might be better off under the new."

I, for one, wish them luck and success in their fight against those practices - the unrealistic deadline breeds deathmarches in the software industry. And, every once in a while, a deathmarch actually succeeds in meeting the schedule - and those are our worst enemies, because it trains certain ruthless management types that they can occasionally win by mistreating their people ( ... )

You, sir, are very much the epitome of the mentality that has caused this very situation to occur. Your thoughtless attack against a person who has, no matter what anyone else says, in my opinion done not only the RIGHT thing, but the ONLY thing possible, lowers you in my eyes to somewhat slightly above the single cell amoeba in terms of how much I value your input to this world. The intolerable situation at EA, and at several other game companies, has come to a head - and people are standing up and saying they will no longer sit back and accept it because it is "the done thing."

Moreover, check your spelling and grammar a little more closely next time. I sure as hell hope you've had some practice at saying "Would you like fries with that?". Asshat.

Come one, come all! Post your comments and anything else that will help ID you. While you are on-line, better check those "help wanted" ads for telemarketers, because when we are done with you, that's the only job you will be able to get!

If that's all you can manage to say, then I guess I was right in assigning you the intelligence of an amoeba. Grow the fuck up, especially if you want to survive in the industry you claim to be in.
