Reunions with oldest friends, slip back into casual modes. Heroes respected from the most unlikely sources, and the last-minute reprieve, thanks to a misspent youth.
Silences separate. The long pauses. Empty, cold, on the edge of the world. Ever-shifting sand seals the mood. Overbearing rebuttals to any attempt to repair bridges, broken relationships. Bouncing memories back and forth, the different pasts in all our heads. Reshaping things, trying to deal with the fact that good intentions still wound. Living with quiet dignity's hard, it takes strength to be gentle and kind. Since I slipped out of life into fantasies, my faculties reduce, options close. A bit of charm's good, as generations move on without me. A year comes to an end. It's been a failure, but there's another round the corner, in what's left of my hands.
