Not to belabor this thing about Kelly Osbourne and corporate-constructed music, but I had the realization that the single "One Word" is a ripoff of the seminal New Wave song "Fade to Grey" by the band Visage. (Read about Visage here) Not only is the feel of the song the same, they both heavily feature the French female speaking in the background in a similar emotionless tone, and the vocal melody to the verses is nearly identical, including the meter of the syllables.

I'm stuck at home, sick with cold/flu, and had some spare time, so I stitched together this little 450k mp3 to show you. I pasted in similar parts from each song but didn't bother to mix it smoothly. All I did was pitch shift each song by 1 note to bring them into the same key.
It seems like I'm obsessing, but I just hate the idea of big labels creating music only to fit a demographic and create sales, using specific formulas. And maybe I hate that I fell for it and can't help liking that song. But only because it sounds like (ahem, rips off) Visage!

here's the mp3
