My muses and I finally finished the fifth book of the Realizations Arc this evening!
{throws fistfuls of confetti into the air, thrilled beyond words to have gotten to this point, then collapses and explains a few things}
But this should never be interpreted to mean that everything is ready to publish. Far from it.
These are all in rough draft form which is good since there are important adjustments to be made in all of them. Why? Well, during the creation of "Karmic Backlash" certain things finally gelled and a frightening number of plot elements were added that need to be reflected throughout the arc.
One of the weirdest of these is something that I just figured out tonight. Basically, it's all about timing. I was working with a generic "late 1990's" concept as I wrote everything, but tonight I decided to place it squarely on the real calender for 1998, the year that Weiss Kreuz first ran on TV in Japan. Makes sense, ne? Best of all, it actually fits that as written with minimal adjustments. Yatta!
Some of the other stuff that needs to be retrofitted into the earlier books are references to support where the arc is going down the road. Come to think of it, if I'd thought this far ahead on some of my other arcs, they would've ended up a helluva lot better. {thinks it over, then shrugs} Oh well. No use crying over spilled milk.
Now since this big announcement means that Erato delivered some sizzling Schwarz sex for me to script, it also means I have a dearth of quotable lines for a teaser. {grimace} But here are two lines of straight dialogue from a moment when Crawford puts a cock ring on himself unexpectedly and causes Schuldig to ask:
Schu: Wasn't that for me?
Brad: You wish.
For those of you interested in statistics, the whole damned thing wound up at a massive 37,663 words, something that will undoubtedly reach 38,000+ once it's been polished within an inch of its life. So obviously, that means breaking it into chapters is inevitable. In a similar vein, the lemon scene alone lasts a mighty 6,243 words. Wow. That's longer than I thought it would be.
Hmm... I wonder how long the threesome lemon was in "Ken's Quandary: Midnight"? Lemme go check... Uh, 6,217 words. Good golly, Miss Molly! I would never have thought they would end up that similar in length. Amazing....
Then again, there is some serious plot work threaded through each scene for both the past and the future, but I blame Calliope for that. Hmph. This is what I get for having a muse of epics as well as ones for angst, lemon, and humor.
On a side note, when I was working on "Tempting Fate", it was a relief when little Thalia poked her head back out. I missed her twisted sense of humor. She probably went underground to avoid all my Real World angst, but she may be sorry that there won't be more room for much laughter in the as yet unwritten portions of this arc.
{happily bouncing in his chair, the llama tries to stop talking about this and boring everyone to death, but then pauses and adds}
Oh, and in case anyone wants to know, I'm thinking of renaming the first three books of the arc. In fact, I'm so serious about it that I've already started researching the new names. {big grin}
With regard to the rest of the planet and all of the non-fanfiction things in my life, it's still hotter than hell here.
At one point in the afternoon, I checked and the heat index at the New Bern airport was at 118. Ugh.
What is really aggravating is that my townhouse has a woefully insufficient air conditioner that can't handle both floors evenly. Being a former research scientist, this piqued my curiosity enough that I got a thermometer and checked a few things. Even though the thermostat is set to an arbitrary 77, only the dining room---aka my Llama Cave---was even close at 78. The living room was warmer at 80. Upstairs, the two tiny extra bedrooms were 80 as well, but my own bedroom was a roasting 82... and humid, to boot! Yuck! No wonder I don't hang out there for anything other than sleeping this time of year.
The new eye candy for tonight from
pink_cosmos commemorates both the season and my muses' efforts. Swe~et!
