Got one of my papers back today. I'm not HAPPYTHRILLEDEXCITEDSATISFIED or any of those pleasurable adjectival niceties. I'm content, I guess. I've thought about it and I think I deserve what I got...in a way. I also think that, had our other professor, who now teaches at the U. of Aberdeen, had marked it the result would have been different. Maybe not. Who knows. But I got a 68, which in the British marking scheme is like an A-. This is going to sound incredibly haughty, but I'm not used to getting A minuses. Or maybe it's simply been so long since I received a grade that I've forgotten what I was used to getting and simply assumed that I would ace everything.

Now they're making us have a dissertation proposal in by 17 February.

On the flipside, the Seahawks won over the weekend (WOOT!), I saw a play tonight at Bedlam theater (erotic, traumatic, a bit long...) with my friend Tash whom I met in Oz and later went to the (kinda lame) pub quiz at Greyfriar Bobby's Pub. Drank two pints o' Guinness and only two. Was home by 11:30 and now I'm about to head to bed so I can wake by 8 and actually make my Nation and Empire in Early Modern Writing class this week. Apparently it's going to be me and a bunch of fourth year undergraduate English girls. I met with three of them (actually, strike that, one was German) yesterday to discuss the week's reading and they're all quite nice, though I still feel that there is a certain type of English person (usually, but not always, identifiable by accent) that holds all North Americans in a particular regard. I don't know how exactly to define this regard, yet I feel it. Maybe it's just due to the fact that the accent commands authority. All unsnotnosed British people would "Bollocks!" that to high heaven, but there has to be some explanation.

Anyways. Gotta go.

back to Seattle in April!
