[OOC] So yeah, Iceland~...

I WANT ICELAND.

SO BAD.

ICELAND ICELAND ICELAND.

I've been quite interested in Iceland (the country, not the person) for about a year now. I did a bunch of research on it for a different RP in March 2008. The climate is particularly intriguing.

Some things about Iceland:

OVERALL

<> Iceland is volcanically and geologically active on a large scale; this defines the landscape. The interior mainly consists of a plateau characterized by sand fields, mountains, and glaciers, while many big glacial rivers flow to the sea through the lowlands. Warmed by the Gulf Stream, Iceland has a temperate climate relative to its latitude and provides a habitable environment and nature.

<> According to Landnámabók, the settlement of Iceland began in 874 when the Norwegian chieftain Ingólfur Arnarson became the first permanent Norwegian settler on the island.

<> Today, Iceland has some of the world's highest levels of economic and civil freedoms. In 2007, Iceland was ranked as the most developed country in the world by the United Nations' Human Development Index.

<> Iceland has been especially badly affected by the current world financial crisis. The nation's ongoing economic crisis has caused significant unrest and made Iceland the first western country to borrow from the International Monetary Fund since 1976. In February 2009 a minority government took office, headed by Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir, the world's first openly gay head of government in modern times.

ENVIRONMENT

<> "If you don’t like the weather right now, just wait five minutes," people sometimes say in Iceland. This is an indication of the strong variability of the Icelandic climate, where one may occasionally experience the four seasons over a day: sunshine and mild temperatures; windy, cool temperatures and rain; snow and temperatures below zero degrees C. When this happens (rarely), it is an expression of the location of Iceland at the border between Arctic and temperate seas, and between cold air masses of the Arctic and warm air masses of lower latitudes.

<> The climate of Iceland's coast is sub-polar oceanic. The warm North Atlantic Current ensures generally higher annual temperatures than in most places of similar latitude in the world. Despite its proximity to the Arctic, the island's coasts remain ice-free through the winter. Ice incursions are rare, the last having occurred on the north coast in 1969.

<> There are some variations in the climate between different parts of the island. Very generally speaking, the south coast is warmer, wetter and windier than the north. Low-lying inland areas in the north are the most arid. Snowfall in winter is more common in the north than the south. The Central Highlands are the coldest part of the country.

Yeah, so Iceland is pretty, um... climatically diverse, I guess you can say. It's full of snow and glaciers as well as geysers and volcanoes.

SO THIS IS WHY ICELAND SHOULD HAVE THE ABILITY TO CONTROL AN INDIVIDUAL'S TEMPERATURE.

Okay, time to get into the description of his power!! My ideal Iceland has the ability to alter a person's core temperature, as well as his own core temperature and the air temperature around himself. I find this funny because Himaruya's Iceland "currently has a cold" (or something like that), which I of course link to the world economical crisis and how it's impacted the country.

If Iceland is to have this power, he'll never be totally sick again! XD He can alter his temperature to keep his fever down, but he'd probably still have a stuffy or runny nose. =(

So yeah, I was thinking, if he touches you twice in the same place with his right middle finger, he can mess with your core temperature. For instance, if he wanted to kill you by making your heart stop, he could tap you twice and depending on how far away the contact area is from your heart, it could take longer for the attack to take effect.

Also, I think the technique should only work if he touches the pad of his middle finger to the opponent's skin, making it harder for him to fight heavily clothed enemies. THIS IS TO MAKE HIM LESS GOD-MODDY. :D

The human heart stops functioning at 80 degrees Fahrenheit, and the human brain overheats at 108 degrees Fahrenheit. I'm still working out the kinks, but how about the person's core temperature shifts one degree every thirty seconds or so? So you don't immediately die if he touched your head twice, you have to wait six minutes before your brain fries (the person's core temp. being 98.6F, of course). And just like having a fever, you'd become disoriented as your time runs out.

Say the oppenent has everything covered except his face. Well Icy could touch him twice on the face and choose to go for his brain instead of his heart, since it's more strategical.

And if one of his buddies has a fever, he can help with that too. =) In a way of speaking, he can either give life or take it away (with two taps of a finger, lol). He does sound a bit god-moddish. XD

btw, his power isn't just limited to hearts and brains. He can make your legs go numb or something, but not give you frostbite or anything, since that' EXTERNAL. He works INTERNALLY.

THIS HAS TO BE IT. THIS MUST BE HIS POWER DNFDWNGRJELFGNSDKLGNRSKLFGNSDRLJKGN.

'Kay, I'm done. =)

PS: THANKS, WIKI.

PPS: If anything about the heart stopping at 80F or anything is wrong, show me proof of what IS right and I'll change it. I'm just going by what I've seen on an episode of "I Survived..." where this guy was stuck in ice-cold water in the winter. I got the brain info from my mom, who works at a hospital. (I thought it might be 105F but I remembered I've had a fever of 105.1 and I was still alive, so... yeah. XD;; )

iceland, ooc
