I played a couple music festivals recently, both I had fairly prominent parts (Sibelius "Violin Concerto," Berg "Wozzeck," Francaix "Divertissement," etc.) in, which went well. I was extremely happy with my performance at the second festival - with the exception of maybe two bars, I absolutely killed the Francaix. It's not an easy piece either, but I just had this sense for what the audience wanted to hear and what I wanted to do. And I somehow landed in the moment during my first breath, and the rest fell into place. At both festivals I was able to reconnect with old friends and even do some networking. Summer is definitely one of my happier seasons.

After a very short break in Portland, I flew to NYC for my friends' wedding. It was a really great wedding, probably the best I've ever been to, to be totally honest. There were a few quirks - the whole thing took place in North NJ, and the MC (a squirrelly man with a large hooked nose and absurd pompadour combover - Sal) was pretty ridiculous. He was basically Ralph Cifaretto (sp?) if any Sopranos fans are reading this. But the bride's always impeccable taste and unmistakable grace were everpresent, and of course the groom's kindness and humility were as well.

I traveled back to NYC after the wedding and managed to see a few of my old friends. Sometimes it seems that time has barely passed, other times I feel like so much has happened in my absence that catching up is pointless. So whether I was picking up where I left off, or just trying to ignore obviously awkward situations - I had a good time at the least. Overall it was too hot. And then there's all that weight to be lost.

Now I have 3 weeks off (almost) in the PDX to unwind, but also to prepare for my next 3 week trip - one week in Northeastern OR, two weeks in Santa Cruz. Life is still good, and I don't really have much to complain about. Except of course for weight loss. I'll run tonight after the temperature drops below 75. I promise.
