I have, about seven years late (by my own arbitrary schedule), finished redrawing Cardoons: The SF/Fantasy Poker Deck in electronic form.
I spent the late 1980s wooing and winning the woman who became (and continues to be) my wife (AcmeSpaceship), and drawing cartoons with SF & fantasy themes in the format of playing cards (learning much later that I was making what's known as a transformation deck). I eventually had them printed on playing cards and was able to sell enough decks to end up (slightly) ahead on the project (after a very long time). On the whole, the designs were clever and the jokes were funny, but it's not like I can actually draw, or anything. The emergence of illustration programs made it possible to redo all this, with the software employed to get around many (but probably not all) of my shortcomings in execution, and add some spiffy effects that I would never have achieved with ink on paper. The finished products have been archived as PDFs.
I was hoping to include a sample here, but since I have the cheapest possible LJ account and the card images aren't web-hosted anywhere, I don't think that can happen. Well . . . if you have no idea what I'm talking about, you aren't missing much, and if you remember the original version, trust me, it looks a lot better now.
