Laptops

I figure there are at least a couple of opinionated people on my friends list, so I throw it open to the floor: I'm buying a laptop to take to Belgium, any advice on brands to avoid or anything? Front runners seem to be this HP or there's a coupla Fujitsu Siemens laptops too on Micro Direct. There doesn't seem to be much difference between all the low end ones really to me, cept a different badge essentially. When I built my PC it all seemed so much more complicated, this seems far too easy...

Edit: I am not buying a Mac. Please can no one else tell me to buy a Mac. If you GIVE me a Mac, I'd consider it but:
a) I can't afford a Mac
2) I don't want a Mac - the only time I used one it was just really annoying
and 4) It would be a pain in the ass at uni here, in Belgium, and at home.

I am perfectly happy with the thought of buying a PC, getting rid of Vista and using Ubuntu, thank you very much.

My god, you're like cult members or something, I swear!

So, has anyone got any constructive advice?
