Don’t ask me why I thought I’d have time to write a little every day during the Davis Cup, and upload photos even. Crazy talk. I barely had time to sleep and eat! Even Saturday, when only one match was played, I didn’t get home until after six, and then I had to commit a few hours to finishing my final project for my International Business class, and by the time I was done with that I was too exhausted to even consider posting.
Worse, my camera’s acting wonky, and so it may be a few days before I can post most of the photos.
Overall, I have to say that I’m happy with the result, the U.S. winning, but I really wanted it to go five. Our plan was for Andy to win both matches, Blake to lose both of his, and the Bryans to win. That way, both Mikhail and Dmitry would get to win one, and ANDY would have been the one to win the deciding match. As it was, I was happy to see him so happy, even if it meant that my Russian boys were so unhappy.
During the opening ceremony on Saturday, before the doubles match, Mikhail was nearly crying when the Russian national anthem was sung. (He and Igor both sang along.) I nearly cried with him, because we all knew by then that it was over. If only, if only…
As it was, the Russians definitely stole the show, not with their tennis, but with the spirited games of football that sprang up before and after the matches. Even on Saturday, after they had officially lost the Cup, they came out while the American team was still working their way off. They had to clear away the streamers, but then they had at it. It was too much fun to watch, squeezed onto half a tennis court. Cheating was rampant, but no one seemed to mind.
Also, we’ve confirmed that Igor Andreev is one of “ours”. If his prettiness and history of kissing boys hadn’t done the trick, then his tireless cheerleading during Dmitry and Mikhail’s matches nailed it.
He needs a fic. I’m not saying I’m going to write him one, but he needs it.
