Off to the Emerald City

I’ve decided to go on a solo vacation at the end of the year. The literal end. I’ll leave on December 31st and return on January 2nd. After almost ten years in Portland, I think it’s time to visit Seattle.

Of course, I have more motivation that just, you know, Seattle. First, there is the Harry Potter Exhibit at PacSci. Second, there is the Mindbender Mansion, also at PacSci, which is basically an exhibit filled with brainteasers and logic puzzles. Very cool, right? (I am a nerd.) Third, there is the New Years Celebration at the Space Needle, including fireworks. Fourth, the Science Fiction Hall of Fame is hosting a Battlestar Galactica Exhibition. (Did I mention I’m a nerd?)

I’m going to take the train up, then stay at a hotel near PacSci and the Space Needle and go everywhere on foot. There are a couple nearby vegetarian places to try out, and of course I will have to have at least one meal in the Space Needle. I already have a three-day weekend, so I don’t need to take any time off, and it won’t be expensive.

I want to go by the end of the year because some of the exhibits I want to see are closing, and I know that most of my friends are busy with holiday and family stuff. So I’ve decided to go by myself. I used to go on mini-vacations alone pretty regularly, but not since I moved out West. Travelling solo definitely has its appeal. You eat where and when you want, go to bed when you’re tired and wake up when you’re ready to be awake, and can change your plans depending on your mood.

Sounds like fun, doesn’t it?

EDIT - Okay, maybe I won't have that meal at the Space Needle.  I just looked at the brunch menu, and no brunch is worth $45 to me.  I'll have to find some other great breakfast spot for Sunday.
