Frankenmix 1.0

- this round's instructions and master list
- my Frankenmix EP [#0.5] submission
- all tracks are mp3 on sendspace

1. A song you would use to pump up a sports arena. -- Led Zeppelin "Immigrant Song"

The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands
To fight the horde, singing and crying "Valhalla, I am coming!"

2. A song you dance to when you're alone. -- Outkast "Hey Ya"

Y'all don't wanna hear me you just wanna dance
(shake it like a Polaroid picture)

3. A song that makes you drive faster. -- Green Day "American Idiot"

Welcome to a new kind of tension, all across the alien nation
Everything isn't meant to be okay.

4. A song with a title that ends in n. -- OPM "El Capitan"

Now Captain Morgan was a pirate dude, he used to jack motherfuckers and act real rude
As a real live person he wasn't much fun but he sure made a good ass bottle of rum

5. A song you completely misunderstood the first time you heard it. -- Meat Loaf "I Would Do Anything For Love"

I would do anything for love, but I won't do that
It wasn't really that I misunderstood the song as my attention would always waver whenever I listened to it so for the longest time I could never pick up on what it was that he *wouldn't* do. Apparently Mr. Loaf will never lie to his girl, never forget the way he feels right now, never do it better then he does it with her, and never screw around.

6. A song you only like half of the time. -- Miss Kittin and The Hacker "Frank Sinatra"

Everynight with my star friends / We eat caviar and drink champage
Sniffing in the VIP area / We talk about Frank Sinatra
When I first heard this song it seemed like some French electronic artist whose English vocabulary consisted solely of dirty words about sex, drugs, and club stardom. Turns out it is one of the anthems of the electroclash scene and is absurdly campy and sexual on purpose.

7. A song that mentions gambling. -- Charlie Daniels Band "The Devil Went Down To Georgia"

Now you play a pretty good fiddle, boy, but give the devil his due
I bet a fiddle of gold against your soul, 'cos I think I'm better than you.

8. A song that could inspire a novel. -- Elton John "Levon"

Levon wears his war wound like a crown
He calls his child Jesus, because he likes the name
This and "Daniel" are my two favorite EJ songs and really, either one could fit this category. Just, gah. LOVE.

9. An educational song. -- Tom Lehrer "That's Mathematics"

Counting sheep when you're trying to sleep,
Being fair when there's something to share,
Being neat when you're folding a sheet,
That's mathematics!

10. A song you know is a cover song, but for which you've never heard the original. -- Counting Crows "Big Yellow Taxi"

They took all the trees, and put 'em in a tree museum
And they charged the people a dollar and a half to see them
(They paved paradise, and put up a parkin' lot)
This is a Joni Mitchell cover and no, I don't know why I've never heard the original. You'd think it would be one my mother would have introduced me to, but alas. My first choice for this spot was actually the Sneaker Pimps cover of Prodigy's "Firestarter" but unfortunately my file cuts off too soon and I havn't yet found anyone with the full length track. Yes, I'm pouting about it.

11. A song that made you cry shamelessly when it was used on a TV show. -- Gary Jules "Mad World"

I find it hard to tell you, I find it hard to take
When people run in circles its a very, very... Mad world
Oh, look at that - another cover for which I have never heard the original (this time by Tears for Fears). I know this was used in the movie Donnie Darko because that's where I first fell in love with the song, but I swear it was used in a tv show too and I totally *did* break down when it played. The only problem is I can't remember what show it was (and I am apparently not alone in this).

12. A song you wish TPTB would use on a TV show. -- Loudon Wainwright III "Dreaming"

I'd rather be dreaming than thinking, thoughts are small comfort to me
Dreams might be pretend but at least dreams end
And I just can't stop thinking you see

13. Bonus -- Better Than Ezra "Rolling"

Me and you got a lot to do. We go rolling from Friday till Sunday noon.
Stop! Start a letter, Rent-A-Saint in back, want to hit the interstate in a Cadillac
And we're rolling.
This song doesn't necessarily make me drive faster, but it is my ultimate "driving on a sunny day with the windows down and the stereo up" song.
