6-8-09- Same hostel lobby
After I left off, awesome Alison taught Elita and I how to play blackjack, we took a break to make awesome potato-leek cream soup, and we resumed playing cards, refreshing ourselves on the rules of various children's games, like crazy eights. After finishing off our soup, we got to sleep.
We woke up to another delicious rice-and-eggs breakfast and soon set out for another leisurely day in Lucerne. Mainly we looked at the whole area of the river and the lake, which we really didn't see to much of yesterday. After stopping to look in several touristy souveneir shops (hey, it was fun) we stopped at a lakeside cafe-type place for a beer and soon after had a rich-as-hell lunch of cheese fondue on bread and potatoes. We stopped back at the train station to get some money (wow, Dad, Elita didn't ask for that much), and on the way back we came upon a congregation of birds.
This was an adventure.
The group of baby ducks, about three clutches'  worth all being watched by a lone female duck, seemed to be doing fairly well, napping in the sun with their heads tucked behind a wing. However, just as we were about to leave, a pair of swans floated into the area. As they tried to bite at the ducklings, I waved my arms at them and hissed as a distraction while the ducklings swam away as fast as possible. Once the swans saw that we were no threat, though, they continued to pursue the duck family. At this poing Elita took the sarong I'd been using to protect my arms from the sun to snap at a swan, while I swung my wallet-on-a-string at the other. We bought mommy-duck enough time to herd the babies into a corner and the swans finally gave up. We walked back here to the hostel, feeling accomplished.
