Bracing for the Week

Oct 21, 2007 22:30

I'm putting off going to sleep because this coming week is going to be killer. I know that these "I'm so busy" sob story posts are getting old, but it's my reality right now so dammit y'all are going to hear about it. In terms of classes and student-related business it promises to be the most packed week of the semester. Also, this Saturday I have the dreaded-work-event that I'm organizing for 60 people. And y'know I can't even organize my refrigerator much less a catered shindig that involves multiple levels of detail. To add to everything, I'm supposed to finish finding/creating images for the online writing anthology for which I am the so-called Art Editor (in my 'free' time). The icing on the cake is that
elaine4queen is completely trouncing me in Scrabble & I've not a hope of recovering. All woe.

I've decided that in order to survive the week sane and whole I must take care of myself -- which I started doing today. It was one of those incredible crystal-clear fall days. So much so that when I headed up the hill on my walk I could nearly count the cars going across the Golden Gate bridge on the other side of the bay. The iPod delivered just the perfect climbing-big-hills mix and I enjoyed the nice ache that accumulated in my legs by the time I returned home. This afternoon I cooked up a big pot of chowder. Spending an extended amount of time chopping vegetables and otherwise tending to and fussing over my soup is one form of taking care of myself, and now I've got enough yummy healthy soup to last for several lunches.

A few other taking-care-of-myself goals are:
1. I will actually remember to take ALL of my various flower tinctures and homeopathic remedies.
2. I will score 1830 in a single scrabble turn.
3. I will begin my own private femmes fatales film festival. (though when I'll fit that in is unclear)
4. I will work in as much laughter as possible around the edges.  Help me out on that, okay?

Feel free to add to my list.  You too can take care of me.  It's free and easy!
