This sweater was begun at the start of summer, or the months that pass for summer in other places, and was knit throughout those rather chilly weeks here in Seattle. I thought, at one point, that when I was done Mark would be able to slip right into it. But no. Summer did arrive tardy but no less welcome for all of that, in late August. And today in mid September it's still a bit too warm for a wool sweater.
The pattern is called Brownstone and is by
Jared Flood of
Brooklyn Tweed. The yarn is Brooklyn Tweed's Shelter. The color is called Almanac and is a delicious heathered cobalt blue that matches Mark's eyes.
All the Shelter colors are deep and yummy. The yarn is very soft, almost an unspun, felty texture. It was a pleasure to work with. If i have one complaint, and it's not much of a one, it's that the felty quality of the yarn lent itself to easy breakage. However, it was super easy to spin a broken piece back together. A little spit in the palm, and roll the twists together and they were as good as new.
I love Jared's design sensibility. His patterns are all very practical and yet elegant. His yarn is much the same. The gray in the collar is a local llama wool handspun from Orcas Island. I wanted to add something that made it personal to us. That did the trick. I had to double the yarn since the llama skein is single twist to get it to match the Shelter weight.
It needs blocking, but I couldn't wait to take pictures.
This was super easy to knit with some nice fitting details. I'd knit another of these in a heartbeat.
