Year in review.

You can read all my previous year-in-review posts under this tag here.

We're getting down to it, guys.

What did you do in 2011 that you'd never done before?
-Proposed properly to a woman
-Visited Cuba and Dawson City for the first time
-Returned to Central Canada as a visitor, not a resident

Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't make resolutions. It's for the best that way.

Did anyone close to you give birth?
No one super-close. Some LJers and a cousin or two, but that's about it.

Did anyone close to you die?
Fortunately, no.

What countries did you visit?
Cuba

What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2011?
The term position in FNI!

What date(s) from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Monday, April 4 is the day I proposed to Hiedi.
I'll be honest - I've never told the complete truth when I've answered this question in other years, in the sense that I don't remember dates all that well. So, I may or may not remember April 4 as the date. I will remember "the Monday that we were in Cuba" as the day I proposed, though.

What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Reaffirming to myself that I'm a good employee and I can be happy at work. Education was rough. Education took a lot out of me. But I'm back, baby!

What was your biggest failure?
I've put on a bit of weight, and that's a bother. And I fought on the internet too much this past year, too. That's a habit I'd really like to get out of (to some extent...).

Did you suffer any illness or injury?
Not of any consequence.

What was the best thing you bought?
Engagement ring.

Whose behavior merited celebration?
Hiedi's. She's good to me. We're good to each other. And Tosh has been really good to me since I started working in FNI, too.

Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Our old landlord's. What a bitch she was, what an awful person to deal with, right from start to finish. Northwestel's, too. They've jerked us around good on TV and phone service. (But I guess they make up for it with their faulty internet usage tracker.)

Where did most of your money go?
I pretty much always say, "rent, food, Northwestel and the Gold Rush" or something like it. This year though, I'd have to add travel to the list - we got around good this year.

What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Moving back downtown, visiting Cuba, proposing to Hiedi, visiting friends in Ontario and Quebec for the first time in three years, visiting Dawson City for the first time, and working at Yukon College.

What song will always remind you of 2011?
Oh, oh - it has to be that terrible one that Manon's sister played the entire time we were in Montreal: Pitbull, "Grab Somebody Sexy". Couldn't escape it the whole summer.

Compared to this time last year, are you:
happier or sadder? About as happy. I'm happier, I guess, just in the sense that we're in a nicer apartment this year, and we're back downtown.
thinner or fatter? Probably a bit rounder.
richer or poorer? About the same. Maybe a little better off.

What do you wish you'd done more of?
Working out, I guess. The stationary bike that Hiedi's getting for Christmas should help this some in the new year.

What do you wish you'd done less of?
As I always say: Non, je ne regrette rien.

How will you be spending Christmas?
It'll be pretty relaxed. Saturday, we'll go downtown for lunch and do our stocking-stuffer shopping. I'll start the roast chicken when we get home and we'll probably head back out to church shortly after that. We'll come home with flurries gently falling on the city (hopefully anyway!!!) and open one gift each, and then probably stay up late doing last-minute wrapping and drinking coffee mixed with sugary, creamy, boozy substances. Sunday we plan to not leave the house. We'll Skype with both sets of parents, and I'll chat with wellesleywino, picking at Saturday's leftovers the whole way through. Monday, we're going for dinner at Lynn and Scott's. He and I will watch the world juniors.

Did you fall in love in 2011?
Stayed in it.

How many one-night stands?
Zero.

What was your favorite TV program?
Maybe Happy Endings. Yeah - I think we'll go with that. Although part of me is tempted also to say HGTV's Property Virgins, hosted by my new sorta-crush Sandra Rinomato. God, she is just so smart, and so good at handling those virgins!!

What was the best book you read?
Book?

What was your greatest musical discovery?
I'm gonna say the best song I discovered this year was "A Little Togetherness" by The Younghearts.

What did you want and get?
To move back downtown, a job that I dig, a proper vacation, and for Hiedi to say yes.

What did you want and not get?
I got almost everything I wanted this year, to be honest. Maybe the only thing I didn't get was that job with the Yukon NDP.

What was your favorite film of this year?
I guess I liked Too Big To Fail? But I'm a sucker for realistic political stuff like that.

What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 31. We were in Vancouver most of the day, and boarded a flight to Varadero late that night.

What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Nothing. There is nothing I could have had that would have made the year a whole lot better. Maybe a Stanley Cup for my team?

How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2011?
Jeans, sweaters, flannel plaid shirts, and ballcaps.

What kept you sane?
Livejournal and intoxicants, as always.

Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Casey Wilson.

What political issue stirred you the most?
The crime omnibus bill. So wrongheaded, so stubborn those Tories are.

Who did you miss?
Erika. Tracey. Marina. Christina. My Central Canada girls.

Who was the best new person you met?
Luke. Dude in my hockey pool. I knew him before this year I guess, but I hadn't really talked to him. Now we email and shoot the shit on hockey about every other day.

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011:
It gets better.
